[At first, Riku wasn't going to say anything. But being that he is, in fact, an arrogant awesome brat, he can't resist. So when he speaks, you can hear the smirk in his voice.]
Hey. Nice job yesterday, guys. That was a pretty good game.
[And he's even being sincere! How about that

Oh, well, it's not like he really minds. Riku will stand there for a moment, then interrupt the silence with that smirk of his.]
Thinking hard? Don't hurt yourself.
Reply
Don't worry, I'm not thinking very hard.

Kind of a strange place to sit around thinking.

Who's... there?
[Was it one of the crew members who were passing by or someone else?
She was starting to sit up, squinting a little before rubbing at her eyes with a gloved hand. She had such a bed head right now.]

It's just me. ...you don't have to get up. Go back to sleep.

Jinx welcomes himself to the seat next to the boy and orders a drink.]

You want to antagonize him, Jinx? He's not going to make it easy for you.]

Jinx's coffee and bagel almost magically appear in front of him. Jinx is going to make sure that Riku knows that he is there by slurping the coffee very very loudly.]

...Yes, he can.
Riku needs something that's going to catch the man off-guard, something good... something like this. When Riku speaks, it's very casual, nonchalant.]
So how long have you known about Xanth and Kairi?
[And buttering that croissant now.]

[He's in too good of a mood to sound bitter.]

Yeah, well, you made some good choices yourself. Picking Pamela was a smart move.
[YES he will continue to be surprised by her for a while jeez okay.]

[But yes, he'll take that free ego fluff, thank you!]

What magic?

Kairi's standing on an almost-flat rock, trying to work her way through some poorly-remembered moves with a make-shift quarterstaff. She is quite clearly not very good; the motions aren't nearly fluid enough and she's not moving her feet at all. She also doesn't look like she's enjoying herself very much; she's frowning and glaring at an invisible opponent.
She hasn't noticed Riku.]

Riku's gonna just hang back for a while, watching her drill. It brings a little smile to his face, but he won't let her flounder and suffer for too long. Instead, he'll come up behind her all quiet-like, slipping his sword from its makeshift belt and using it to tap her ankle gently. He's smiling when he speaks, stepping up to one side of her so that she can see him.]
You know, it's easier if you move with your weapon instead of keeping your feet planted.

Riku! Heh, that's what Samus said. But it's hard when you're just pretending.
[Samus had been far too strong for either of them to consider sparring. Practising with another beginning like - oh, let's say - Xanth could lead to Kairi hurting someone, and she doesn't want that. And beating up ponybees or giant rats just seems mean.]
She didn't get to show me much before she disappeared, anyway.
[And for once, Kairi sounds totally at peace with the boat vanishings. Time heals all wounds, apparently.]

[Riku grins, but he's got another question to ask first.]
So you decided to learn how to fight. That something new to the boat?
[Or is it from that year that you've got on him?]
