[Laron is out a good distance from the castle, sitting on a hillside. Before him is a dead Rifle Demon that has been cut open so one can get a good view of it's insides. Lying next to Laron is a bloody axe and towel. He is carefully sketching the demon's anatomy in a sketchbook.]

I don't know whether to be excited or angry!

I mean, it's great to see someone learning about the anatomy of a rifle demon like this... but did he really deserve this?

No one will ever know whether he deserved it. I found him dead, and I was curious to see if demons work differently from my people. Mainly I was curious about the cannon arm.

I'm sure it's for the betterment of science if you determine how he works....

It's more of a hobby than a love of research for it's own sake. I've walked this...well, I've walked across various worlds for a long time, and I've picked up an awful lot of skills and knowledge.

An excellent question! The idea of someone wandering around who is powerful enough to kill a rifle demon, and without any obvious sign of struggle has been on my mind, and pressing enough to make concentrating on my task difficult.

Whoever hurt this demon might cause even more trouble. They might be going after the poor dragons next!

I just can't bear the thought. I hope you discover clues soon, so we can put a stop to the attacker!

If Senator Wasted is any indication, someone going around killing rifle demons is doing the world a favor.

Still I suppose they might not be so discriminating in their victims as me they might be. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

They seem to have a specialized organ for collecting excess body heat and storing it. That's part of how the cannon arm works, but I'd really need to have some more samples before I can get it all figured out.

Sorcerery is just such an integrated part of everything in this world that it's hard to figure out how anything works without hours of etheric research, if not days. I think I'm starting to get the feeling that the reason so few demons try to learn much about their world is that doing so is far more difficult than it seems like it should be.
