usage: I couldn't tell if it was snarkiness, or if I was just angry and covered in crickets.

Hee! The phrase really stands on its own, but that's a marvelous etymology. There's probably an etymology/entomology joke in there somewhere, too, but I'm not awake enough to find it yet.
