Remember that SSRI antidepressants often take up to 6 weeks to really make a noticeable difference on your mood; make sure to give it that much time before deciding it doesn't work.

Supposedly this one should take about 4-5 days, and it's only 10 mg for testing purposes before we're going to up the dosage. We're going to keep testing until we find a dosage or a medication that works for me, basically.

I've taken two other antidepressants before that had a HORRIBLE effect on me after only two days. One made me feel absolutely terrible about everything, and the other made me feel so physically sick I thought that I was going to collapse and die (hence my relief that neither has happened so far). So I was mostly relieved that I didn't get those feelings again.

Thanks for the concern and advice, by the way. We're hoping that I have the same chemistry as my sister and that Prozac will work for me since it does for her.

Yes, SSRIs are notorious for their inconsistency--many people have to try several for a few weeks each before anything really works.

Are you sure about the 5 days? That may be enough time for some, but really you should allow at least 2 to 3 weeks before dismissing one.

I have a 30 day supply, but the doctor said it might kick in as early as immediately or after 5 days with some people. Considering the other two kicked in so quickly (in the entirely wrong ways, but still worked), we think this one might work quickly too.

I will be sticking with it for the whole bottle, and I do have a refill on it as well. Only time will tell, and I'm willing to stick with it for as long as it takes. Because, really... this past semester sucked royally and I want to prevent another episode as much as I can.
