Doesn't take a musical rocket scientist to see how at first glance the bands... might look similar:

Female singers... 2 of them. On one hand Cristina Scabbia, the other Amy Lee, look similar don't they?
Let's move on.
The main sticking point in seemingly every message board I've been to where I've tried this, is they sound the same, which yes on the surface the bands do to a point, to me it all comes down to how the two bands utilize their respective singers.
When listening to L.C's songs as opposed to those of E's(I was sick of typing Evanescence) I do not get the feeling that Cristina's voice is entirely the focal point of each song(some cases are different of course like "Falling Again"), there are other elements to the mucic such as symphonic elements, I'd say the musicianship is superior, but who knows what E are capable of yet. on top of that there is another singer, who throws in another element which is of course vocal tradeoffs(which yes E does once... but let's not think of that).
Evanescence are at the start of their career so in a sense it's not fair to really judged them up against a band like Lacuna Coil(btw, why L.C, why not After Forever, Rain Fell Within, Nightwish... and the list could go on), unlike Lacuna Coil, Evanescence seems to have made a concious effort to make Lee the focal point of EVERY song on the album, take a song like "Going Under" for instance, not to take anything from the phenominal voice that Lee has but it is almost all the band has going for them, but again this is their debut album so who knows where they might go, the thing I do find annoying however is the under use of the vocal range lee must have, her voice in every song they have seems to take the same tone, it's even that way in the song with Seether on the punisher soundtrack. I for one can't wait til the next E album, as if they branch out and experiment with their sound... the talent does seem to be there, they will most likely BECOME Lacuna Coil, or something similar if they choose to do so.
