I had a doctor appointment today, and the nurse measured my height as well as my weight beforehand.  My height, she said, is 5 feet, 5.5 inches.  This is ONE INCH SHORTER than the last time a nurse measured my height, maybe 2 or 3 years ago.  Which was already an inch shorter than some nurse measured me 8 or 9 years ago.  That's right, I was once ( Read more... )

They insist upon measuring my height about every year and every year I get a different result, anywhere in the range of 5'1 3/4 to 5'2 1/2" and one random time I was told I was 5'3"! Nobody had ever said I was 5'3" before! :D So I guess that I am actually 5'2" or 5'2" 1/2 at most, because I'm shorter than anyone I know who is 5'3". :D

Hmm, well I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's experienced this!

Do talk to your doctor about it -- it could be something as benign as simply being measured at vastly different times of the day (lying on the bed asleep does actually change your height a bit) -- but it could also be signs of a health issue such as scoliosis or osteoporosis or whatever. It can't hurt to talk about it and it could help **hugs**

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that! I will make sure to mention it when I see my doctor next. *hugs back*

Was the nurse shorter than you? I'm always measured by nurses significantly shorter than me, and they can never get the measuring thingy quite right because they can't reach. ;) Thus my height has supposedly varied by 2 inches at various points... my current doctor's office doesn't bother with measuring and just asks you to provide your height. :-p

Nurses are rarely shorter than me and I still get a variety of measurements, lol!

Now that's interesting... I wasn't paying much attention but I don't think the nurse was much shorter than me. I'll have to get some labmates to measure me once and for all this week! :P
