Summer?

Have any of you ever stayed in Oberlin during the summer? Is it fun? Will I go crazy?
Is it easy to find a place to live? How do I go about that?

Summer is, by far, the best time to be in Oberlin.

It's much easier to find a place for 1-3 people than it is for 5 and up. But on the plus side, rent is even cheaper during the summer! (I paid $190/month including utilities and lawn mowing, though the house was practically falling apart).

I spent two summers in Oberlin. The first, I only had one friend in town, and while I was really lonely a lot, I also got to spend a lot of time figuring out how to live on my own. It was incredibly peaceful and low-key, and I got resentful when people came back for the semester. The second, I was living with friends. That summer was less fun for personal reasons, but I think if those hadn't been there it would have been pretty great.

Housing is absurdly cheap. Start looking on the classifieds for sublets (or talking to landlords) in April or so. It shouldn't be too hard to find. Can't give you work advice, as I was in a lab at the time. Good luck! I think staying there over the summer is totally worth it.

Late nights at the Feve with no homework to worry about, picnics, movie marathons, trips to Cedar Point, adventures in mixed drinks, 4th of July, sidewalk sales... it's dreamy.

It's pretty awesome. Lots of time to do whatever you want. The weather is wonderful, if a little hot.

Sublet a room in a house for some super cheap rent, and find out if any of your friends will be there over the summer too so you can do meals together to save money on food.
