I'm pretty much with you every step of the way on this. I am about to bring up some nitpicks with your arguments above, but on the whole, I would agree that this movie convinced me that I actually am ready to see Christopher Nolan stand down so that we can get someone else's vision. I didn't feel that way before, but I do now ( ... )

Somewhat off-topic, but also on-topic: Perhaps the best thing that came out of TDKR is that Maria and I rewatched the first two leading up to it. I got to reconnect with my serious love of the first, and got to kindle a newfound love for second one. A similar thing happened when we watched the first Spider-Man about Amazing's release: I had gotten so bogged down in small gripes or issues that came later in the sequels that I'd forgotten that the first one is honestly pretty good. Similarly, although TDK still totally blows Harvey Dent's story for me and Gyllenhall's actor replacement is irritating, it has so much else going for it that I'd allowed to become overshadowed by the things that bugged me. It's really great overall, and I finally got a chance to realize and embrace that ( ... )

Anyway, Bane's mask. I interpreted the "teeth/springs" to be vials of some sort of gaseous anesthetic. That is why when Bruce knocked them out of position during a fight, it crippled Bane. And then we're shown Talia lovingly moving them back again, and Bane gets up. I think it would've been nice to make that a little more explicit by actually showing Bane in an earlier scene replacing spent vials with new ones or something, though. Also, I'm not even sure that's correct. Again, my interpretation, but I think that makes sense ( ... )

1) But where is this gas coming from? We see all sides of his mask, and there's noplace for the gas to be inserted or pumped in from or... whatever. Do we think the teeth/springs themselves can hold the gas? That's perhaps the only area that isn't flush with his skin, so it might be the only option... I just can't see how the mask does anything.

2) That's pretty hilarious, but it still seems like we shouldn't assume that this retroactively makes it okay. Who knows - maybe some of them are embittered and violent against the establishment BECAUSE of how fast and hard they got locked away.

Part Three dontevenknow July 29 2012, 14:54:00 UTC
I never caught the name of Selina's girlfriend. You say it's Holly, and after a quick trip to Wikipedia, that seems to make sense. However, IMDB credits her as "Jen." If you feel that Selina isn't necessary to the movie, this gal REALLY isn't necessary. She basically just serves to make me wonder how Bruce and Selina are expected to live happily ever after when there's good textual evidence suggesting Selina is a lesbian. I think that totally fits with her character in every way even though she kisses Batman a couple times. I really think she could've kissed him in just an emotional (as opposed to romantic) way and still at the end of the day been mostly or entirely about the ladies ( ... )

1) A few people online referred to her as "Holly," and I believed it. It seemed plausible enough. As for Selina being a lesbian... she never gives this girl any affection in return, even though the Jen/Holly sure seems interested in Selina, so I don't think there's much evidence of Selina being a lesbian. If necessary, you can always pretend that she plays both sides. But really, regardless of her sexuality, I think I have go back to "It's not like the Bruce/Selina or Batman/Catwoman relationship got any development that made it a satisfying Happy Ending anyway" argument. These two are just getting to be attracted to each other somewhat, if you ask me - they're not ready for some kind of "in it for the long haul" disappearing act ( ... )

"Which feels EXACTLY like a fanfic where a new ensign on the Enterprise proves that he’s even better than Kirk and Spock combined by saving the entire ship while the rest of the crew flails and screams."

Actually, you don't need a fanfic for that. They called him Wesley Crusher...
