This trip has sadly not been what we had hoped for and needed. Rather than a much needed rest it has been frustrating and tiring.
First, Miles gets sick the night before we leave and has to call into work. Now he probably won't get his vacation pay.
Every time I visit Texas I wind up sick thanks to allergies. Was NOT expecting it to take only hours before I wanted to rip out my lungs and throat.
Nine hours on the road Friday for a 2 hour visit with Miles' Grandmother. We did enjoy our time with her and it was interesting hearing her life story, but I hate driving even when I'm well much less that much time when I'm miserable and it's raining.
Saturday was the funeral. I was mildly disconcerted that the priest wore a polo and slacks rather than something a little more dressy. The reception at the deceased's house was difficult. There wasn't enough space for everyone to sit inside so several of us went to sit under awnings in the front yard. Mind you it was 40 degrees and raining. I all ready wasn't feeling well and then I went to step under the awning. Apparently the water pooling in the awning reached critical mass at just that moment as it decided to dump a bucket load down the back of my shirt. Having no change of clothes and the house not being heated I got to sit around soaking wet and cold for a couple hours.
Skipped church today, much to the chagrin of my parents. Every inch of me is sore and my lungs don't want to work. Tuesday I'm supposed to go back to work but I don't think I'll be in any shape by then. Doctors appointments for Miles and I are both forthcoming that day.
Tomorrow we fly back to Michigan. It seems that every time I come to Texas its a royal wreck. If not for our families being here I don't think I could ever bring myself to returm at this point.
I need a break to recover from my "vacation."
