Nonfiction as of May 2011

With school over, I figured I should start reading nonfiction books to make up for the inevitable "You are not learning anything" vacuum in my brain. Not that I've been reading nonstop nonfiction; I try to alternate between a bit of fiction, and a bit of nonfiction. That Tokyo Vice book was really popular, out of nowhere, at my shop, so it's interesting to get some depth on it.

Also, "appreciate freedom"?? WTF kind of nebulous, substance-free, crapola is that? I don't have any ish with M McCain myself, and I remember uber-lefty Kate Harding doing a spirited defence of her, but, ay yi yi.

I think the Tokyo Vice book might've gotten popular after the author was quoted on how the Yakuza were sometimes better as first responders to disaster, using their trucking resources, etc after the Japan earthquake/tsunami hit.

"appreciate freedom" probably isn't an exact quote but yeeeah, I don't know why she even bothered to have the word "politics" in her book title. She was in the campaign, blogging about it and uh... that's not really that political, is it?
