they were quite successful for a time (and Speer on the left had quite a legacy in the Olympic stadium) but only because they pleased Hitler, not on the basis of their merits. I don't think that Hitler's artistry was necessarily repressed, just not acccepted with quite the adulation he wanted.
We learned about hitler in my art history class yesterday. Hitler was an artist himself, and I think that he wanted to be an art professor. But while he was at the university one of the professors told him to leave because he said that Hitler would never make it and he would never have the talent. The professor also told Hitler that he should go into politics instead....

I wonder if the repression of any artistic inclination in people invariably leads to them manifesting some sort of egotistical mania.
