livejournal! it seems the less homework i have the more i must avoid it, so here i am, the night after a four-day weekend, 10.30 pm and i haven't started my meager homework. so it goes..
I've done a lot a lot a lot this weekend. my wild friday night consisted of going to publix with liza.
we picked up four cases of soda, new shampoo/conditioner, and then we got to the butter aisle. we spent five minutes puzzling over the various tubs, until Mr. Smith and Timmy walked up and made us realize how silly we looked. so it goes..
on friday night i watched some of Life Aquatic. it wasn't as good as Royal Tannenbaums. on saturday i went to the beach. it was legally required that all seniors attend the beach this weekend, and i didn't want to be caught on the wrong side of the law. i went with my family.
the glasses came from my grandfather, via lillian.
this was fun. the stairs aren't perfect, though.
on sunday, i had a great time driving around in the morning, especially observing little havana at 7.00 a.m..
i read a great book this weekend! it's called a walk in the woods, by Bill Bryson, and i'd highly recommend it to anybody. it's about this guy that decides to hike the appalachian trail. it tells the story, in hilarious detail, of his adventure, but every chapter or so he'll go off on these long tangents about the history of the forest service, or the alleged extinction of the eastern mountain lion, to name a few. it's immensely interesting, and the first book in more than a year that i really couldn't put down. read it.
on monday i journeyed to Benson lighting for a new desklamp with liza and jolie. afterwards we walked over to Ranchuelo's and i had a cuban coffee and spoke spanish to the camarera. ella era muy simpática. el día era muy fun, except for when i got dizzy.
on tuesday i decided to hike. i had to drive all the way out to west kendall to buy the Cold War book, but after a great lunch i drove up to the grove, 45 minutes early for getting liza from school. I hiked in flipflops from David Kennedy Park (the dog park) up bayshore and then tigertail past 17th avenue and back. it was immensely satisfying.
...which brings me to today. this afternoon's highlight (in contrast to burning a lot of gas) was bicycling.
this is the ravine/the sinkhole. it is on the corner of Ludlam and 98th street. it consists of a blank lot with a big sinkhole in it (think wider than Ludlam road). there's a little island in the middle (think as wide as one lane of Ludlam). there's a giant suspension bridge from the land to the island. i have no idea what it's doing there. but it is intriguing.
enough reading! the slackers and the bad plus are the bands of the moment. plan accordingly.
food not bombs!
