It sounds like some blimy English slang. "Oh dear, it seems I got a might of that freshers flu, gov'nah. Bugger all, maybe I should make myself a pot of tea and nibble on a scrumpet and blood sausage."
Who's denying its existence? Too little sleep, a liquid diet, not enough decent home-cooking - any/all of those things make you more susceptible to illness......THEN people turn up from all over the country/world, bringing their colds and flu's to which you have no immunity, and bang, you've got freshers' flu. A bout of it upon the houses of all the cynics who claim it's not a real phenomenon.
