Chapter 3-Part 2
Ϣ
“You what?!” Ryeowook screeched, staring at him in horror.
“You don’t have to be so loud Wook.” Eunhyuk winced, finger rubbing his ear tenderly. “It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Not that big of a deal?!” Ryeowook scoffed, throwing his hands wide as he looked at his friend, feet blindly carrying him down the path. “Not that big of a deal?!”
“Yeah,” Eunhyuk scoffed, rolling his eyes. “I kinda said that.”
“He could have killed you!”
“But he didn’t, look out for that puddle.” Eunhyuk replied calmly, guiding his cousin about the gaping muddy mass. “I’m here aren’t I?”
“And sore as hell.” Ryeowook scoffed.
“I’m fine Ryeowook.” Eunhyuk laughed, eyes crinkling in merriment. “Besides, I think he is more shook up about it that I am.”
Doubtfully Ryeowook looked at him. “You know nothing about him.”
“He has nowhere else to go.”
“You don’t know that.” Ryeowook replied doubtfully, pulling the other to stare at him. “Have you thought about this?” he demanded.
“Enough.” Eunhyuk shrugged, looking away from the other’s eyes in slight annoyance.
“Is this because of him?” Ryeowook asked softly, eyes filled with concern.
“No.” Eunhyuk snapped, whipping to look at the other. “It’s not. Why do you think every decision I make has to be based off of him?” he glared.
“He broke your heart.” Ryeowook whispered softly, looking away.
“And I’m moving on.” Eunhyuk ground. “Donghae has nothing to do with it.”
“Then why are you letting him stay there?” Ryeowook asked softly, voice slightly hard. “You didn’t even let Heechul move in!”
“He hasn’t moved in.” Eunhyuk defended, shifting his bag. “He’s just staying for a while.”
“How long?” Ryeowook demanded.
“I don’t know,” Eunhyuk shrugged. “Till he wants to leave?”
“You’re joking?” Ryeowook asked, jaw dropping. “What if he never leaves?”
“It’ll be awkward when one of us gets a partner ten huh?” he smiled good naturedly.
“Why are you even bothering with him?” Ryeowook asked after a moment’s pause. “You hate dealing with people.”
“I don’t know.” Eunhyuk mumbled thoughtfully. “Heechul asked the same thing.”
“He did?” Ryeowook asked in astonishment.
“Yeah,” Eunhyuk shrugged in mild bewilderment, attempting to mask his maraud emotions. “He even tried to run him off.”
“You’re joking!”
“Nope, I am dead serious.” Eunhyuk shook his head. “I can tell you after class if you like.”
“Why not now?” Ryeowook pouted.
“Because,” Eunhyuk laughed, bounding up the stairs. “Professor Kim will kill us if we’re late!”
“Like he doesn’t with those reports?” Ryeowook scoffed, scampering after him.
“They’re not that bad.” Eunhyuk laughed speed walking towards their building.
“You’re only saying that because you’re his favorite.”
“I hand in good papers.” Eunhyuk countered.
“Teachers pet!” Ryeowook retorted.
“Don’t sleep and he won’t yell at you.” Eunhyuk scoffed. “We’re taking the stairs.” He proclaimed, pulling the door to the flight open.
“You’re joking.” Ryeowook deadpanned, huffing after trying to keep up.
“That is like the world’s slowest elevator.” Eunhyuk scoffed, taking the stairs two at a time.
“Dude, you gotta slow down!” Ryeowook called from behind.
“You should run more.” Eunhyuk laughed, peering over the railing at the struggling boy.
“You should run less.” Ryeowook shot back.
Chuckling Eunhyuk waited patiently for the other, huffing he caught up to him.
“Wait.” Ryeowook gasped, latching onto the other’ shirt.
“We’re going to be late.” Eunhyuk whined, fingers itching to grab the door.
“Just one more thing.” He gasped.
“What is it?” Eunhyuk asked impatiently, watching the other students file in through the small glass window.
“Just be careful.”
“Huh?” Eunhyuk demanded.
“Everyone starts off in a bar for a reason; remember I told you that before.”
“Uh-huh.” Eunhyuk stated impatiently, eyes on the dwindling line.
“Hyuk.” Ryeowook demanded, forcing the other to look at him. “I’m being serious.”
“So am I.” Eunhyuk replied, smiling at his cousin affectionately. “Look, just see it as me picking up another stray.”
“He’s not a dog.” Ryeowook deadpanned.
“Could have fooled me.” Eunhyuk scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“Eunhyuk.”
“What are you so worried about Wook?” Eunhyuk demanded. “If he had wanted to kill me, he would have.”
“That’s not what I am talking about.” Ryeowook insisted, looking down.
“Then what are you talking about?” Eunhyuk asked impatiently.
“Don’t fall in love.” He said softly.
Mouth falling pen Eunhyuk looked at him incredulously. “You’re joking me right?”
“No.” Ryeowook whispered softly. “I’m worried.”
“Look,” Eunhyuk tried patiently, trying to ignore the other door as it slowly swung shut signally the start of class. “You don’t have to worry about it. I’m not looking for that, he’s apparently just getting over it.”
“You never know what could happen.” Ryeowook said softly.
“Well that’s not one of them.” Eunhyuk scoffed. “You don’ have to worry.”
“I don’t want to see you like that again.” Ryeowook whispered softly, eyes flashing with tears as he remembered.
Sighing Eunhyuk fought the flurry of emotions, smiling instead at his cousin in what he hoped was a reassuring manner. “Wook, he is just looking for a place to stay. I wanted to get a pet to take away the loneliness in the apartment. I couldn’t afford one and he has no home but can take care of himself. It’s like I picked up a self-sufficient stray.” He finished, looking at the door he cursed under his breath. “Now can we go to class?” he finished, slipping through the door, eager to finish the conversation.
“Yeah,” Ryeowook scoffed, pursing his lips as he watched his cousin retreat. “A really attractive stray.”
Ϣ
Rolling to his side Donghae’s eyes slowly opened, cursing under his breath when he realized what he had hoped was a dream turned to be reality. Groaning slightly he was satisfied to note that his head throbbed a little less, but his body still ached, biting his lips he slowly pulled himself to a sitting position to access his surroundings. Uncertainly Donghae’s eyes scanned the sunny room, taking in the contents. The other, Eunhyuk as he had discovered, was right. The place didn’t have much but it had a certain appeal to it. Trying to peer through the door he made sure the other was gone before slowly creeping from the bed, eyes riveted to the door frame for movement. Once he was positive the other had gone he slowly stood, hesitantly looking at the small pictures that seemed to be the only decoration in the room.
Eyes squinting he instantly found the other in the photos different hairstyles seeming to be his trend. Lips quirking he seemed to find the different styles charming.
“He changes his hair more than a kpop idol.” He mused softly. Hesitantly his fingers reached out, grabbing one of the frames to peer t it a little more closely. The other had large, almond shaped eyes the color of onyx, even in the pictures they shone. Looking at his smile, Donghae felt his own lips pull back. He liked the smile, it was rather gummy, but endearing at the same time. You could tell that he enjoyed life. His jaw was well defined and he seemed to prefer muscle shirts over any other article of clothing. Instantly his bare, toned chest flashed though his memory and Donghae felt his face flush. Shaking his head he tried to rid himself of the memory, placing the picture back on the shelf. Instead he opted for one with a fully dressed Eunhyuk, his arm slung about another shoulders. Eyes widening fractionally Donghae felt his eyes widen in recognition at the smiling man beside him. Biting his lips he tried to place the other, his soft features and plush lips begging for recognition. Gasping he quickly replaced the picture, cursing as the memories began to filter through his mind. A strangers tongue trailing the blonde’s jaw, him becoming angry. The petite man arriving, the blonde smiling and the strangers face meeting the granite and then… and then. Cursing Donghae tried to force his memory, desperate to remember but at the same time desperate to forget. … After all, he sort of wanted to know. Wait, no he didn’t. He cursed himself softly. He didn’t want to know. He had been drunken and stupid. It hadn’t mattered… and yet… the other’s lips seemed to call to him. Peering at the picture he felt himself drawn, a loud clattering noise causing his to jump. Face red he swiveled, determined to leave the room and take an aspirin.
Curiously his eyes scanned the bathroom cabinet behind the mirror, irritation on his features.
“He works at a bar and yet he doesn’t have a single fucking aspirin?” he hissed angrily, carefully placing the mirror back instead of slamming it like he so desperately wished. Trailing through the bedroom he was careful to keep his eyes focused on the floor. Away from the other’s clothes in the corner, the vacant bed and the alluring photos. Once safely outside of the room his eyes quickly found the small kitchen that seemed to be adjacent to the living room. Suddenly thirsty he rushed to the sink, steading himself against the instant wave of nausea.
“Stupid hang over.” He cursed softly. “I’m never drinking again.” Stepping forward a yellow bottle caught his gaze. Slowly he turned to look, an astonished smile on his face. Reaching out he grabbed the bottle, smiling at the small note attached.
Morning Sunshine~
Well, I can imagine you probably are still around if you got this. Don’t worry I have no intention of waking you. I bet you are probably worn out from last night. … God knows I was. Anyway, in case you don’t wake, my name is Eunhyuk. You mentioned not having a place to stay so feel free to stay as long as you like. I left the key on the table. If you decide to leave, place it under the mat. I don’t really know what’s good for hang-overs, since I don’t drink, but a friend of mine said he takes aspirin. I went to the store and bought some. They also said protein is good. I don’t have much but there are some eggs in the fridge. … They should still be good. … Uh I guess I am rambling. Anyway. I guess I’ll see you tonight. We can talk about last night.
-Hyuk
Looking down at the aspirin Donghae felt a smile tug at his lips. He had even left him a note. Smiling he reread the note, a soft flutter bouncing in his chest.
“A bartender who doesn’t drink?” he laughed, looking at the letter curiously. “I think I really did find m something interesting this time.”
Shaking his head in amusement he caught the last sentence, cheeks flushing slightly. They would talk about last night. … Oh joy. Face scrunching uncertainly he debated if he wanted to hang around that long. Chiding himself for the cowardly thought. Besides, he reminded himself. He really had nowhere else to go. At least, not a place he could return to. Biting his lip he fought the itchy achy feeling of his throat. Inhaling shakily he tried to force himself to forget why he couldn’t return home, instead deciding to go to the fridge and find food so that he could take the aspirin. Grinning he saw the eggs, remembering the other’s uncertainty as to whether or not they were any good he searched for a bucket, locating one he quickly placed it in the sink filling it with cold water. Humming to himself he slowly placed three eggs into the water, smiling when none of them floated.
“Looks like they’re still good.” He hummed, searching for a pan he fought with the stove before the pilot light finally caught. Eyeing the heat he slowly turned it down, placing the pan over it to warm. Going to the bottle of aspirin he shook some out, silently thanking the absent man for his kindness. Searching he fished out a bottle of water, placing them in the table before he found a plate. Sliding his egg onto the small glass dish he settled down, ready to enjoy is meal.
“You’re still here?” a voice demanded angrily.
Eyes glancing up from the egg sandwich he was about to bite into Donghae’s eyes caught hold of two smoldering black orbs. Closing his mouth he reluctantly placed his meal back on the plate. Brushing his hands of the crumbs he stood, smiling politely.
“Hyoyeon I presume?” he offered in a friendly manner.
“What the hell are you still doing here, you drunken cretin?” she demanded, arms crossed angrily.
Frowning slightly Donghae felt his own arms cross furiously. “I was about to eat breakfast.” He countered, voice taking on a hard edge.
“You’re still here.” She repeated eyes narrowed to slits.
“Apparently so.” Donghae replied, narrowed eyes taking in the slender woman before him. Her hip was cocked angrily and her small shorts revealed slender, toned legs. Dark, raven hair cascaded down her shoulder, framing a round, soft face. Angrily her full lips were pulling into an angry grimace, her smoldering eyes trained on him. In all an infuriating being that was preventing him from recovering from a hangover.
“Do you have a problem with me?” Donghae demanded lowly, highly irritated by the woman’s aggression.
“I heard him call you Donghae.” She stated, ignoring his comment. “Who are you to Eunhyuk.” She commanded coldly.
“I don’t see how it matters to you.” Donghae replied, annoyed at the woman’s behavior.
“I’ve never heard him mention you.” Se countered, narrow eyes still trained on him.
“Maybe you just didn’t listen hard enough.” Donghae replied cantankerously, deciding that if the woman wouldn’t be civil, neither should he.
“I listen hard enough.” She countered angrily.
“Whatever.” Donghae scoffed, sitting back down to show his disinterest. “Eunhyuk said you’d bring dinner, he never said anything about you interrogating me.”
“He told you I’d come bye?” she gasped.
“He left the key as well.” Donghae shrugged, relishing in the woman’s anger. “Are you going to clean the house as well?”
“Why?” she demanded darkly.
“We kind of made a mess of the bed room.” He winked, enjoying the offensive woman’s rage.
“What did you do to him?” She demanded irately, eyes roving him suspiciously.
“What didn’t I do is more like the question.” He smirked, eyes narrowed in devilish glee.
“What do you mean?” she gasped in horror.”
“You like him, don’t you?” Donghae stated simply, chin coming to rest on his folded hands. Coldly his eyes roved her, grinning at her instant flush.
“What’s It matter to a dullard like you?” she retorted haughtily.
“Calling me names still?” Donghae replied smirk plastered to his features.
“What did you do to him?” she demanded lowly.
“Would you like me tell you then? What the feel of his lips is like?” Donghae leered, taunting the infuriating woman. “I could tell you that.” He smirked, a pinned Eunhyuk flashing through his mind. Battling his own blush he focused on the insulting woman before him. Watching her eyes grow wide he resisted the urge to laugh. For the first time that day he truly wanted to remember what had happened that night.
“You’re lying.” She whispered softly, eyes narrowed angrily.
“Why don’t you ask him how sore he is later then?” Donghae smirked.
“What are you saying.” She whispered in horror.
“We both woke up sore this morning, but only one of us complained about our ass, care to guess who?” he leered closer, watching her pale slightly. “I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t me.”
“He wouldn’t.” she said lowly.
“But he did.” Donghae laughed, tilting his head. “Let me guess, you’ve been playing the good neighbor for what, a year now?” Silently she just glared at him. “Hasn’t gotten you very far now then has it?”
“I’m happy with where we are now.” She hissed lowly.
“Are you?” Donghae asked curiously. “If you were you wouldn’t have stormed in here like that.”
“What do you know?” she demanded.
“Well,” Donghae laughed, standing to look at her. Slowly he sauntered over, trapping her chin beneath his fingers, looking into her angry eyes. “What I know is, you’ve been playing the good girl for a long time, and all you’ve managed to do is get a key. I played a little dirty.” He chuckled, letting his insinuated words sink in, “And I got a bed.”
“What are you saying?” she whispered in anger, unable to break the other’s gaze.
“You asked what I was doing here right?”
“Yes.” She ground.
“Can’t you see?” he asked snidely. “You’re the old I’m the new.”
“You’re point?” she hissed, yanking from his grasp.
“Let’s make this a little more clear.” He smiled indifferently, releasing her chin he stood bag smugly crossing his arms.
“I’m you’re upgrade.”
