Over this past term I've been thinking more and more about transferring to LSE. I just have trouble seeing myself back at Oberlin after experiencing what college can be like in a big city. Plus Oberlin has no business program, no marketing, no strategy-- I would once again only be taking economics courses, something I'm loathe to do. I enjoy ( Read more... )

no. they can't make people change. it's like big brother, almost. people choose to smoke or whatever. taking away health services is almost like taking away their right to choose.

It is to a degree influencing their right to choose, but that's the whole point. Taking your line of argument is tricky, because by your logic the government shouldn't make hard drugs like cocaine illegal. Nor should they be able to tell people where they can and can't smoke, like the anti-smoking in public places legislation being enacted all over.

They didn't say they'd be taking away health services completely, just taking away some-- since people are making the conscious choice to smoke, drink, or eat in excess, they are making the conscious choice to be a drain on societal resources, something hurting those who don't make that choice.
