“There’s a new perfume on the market driving everybody crazy- it smells like money.”

As I read the list of forty-one quotes, there were many that compelled me to nod in agreement, disagreement, or wonder as I passed over them, in search of the quote that would set off the figurative light bulb above my head. When I arrived upon the quote that would ( Read more... )

I enjoyed that quite a bit, it was very well articulated and written. If you ever get a chance talk to Mr Walkner. He was my RAM teacher but left PR and is now at central. He's a good guy, hopefully youll get him as a teacher.

Take care.

I actually didn't write this, Kenny Froehlig did. I thought everyone should have a chance to read it because it is an incredible paper. I am in RAM now, I don't have Mr. Walkner, but it is a very informative class and I enjoy it.

The latter part was extremely entertaining. As much as I *partly* agree with it, I have to say one thing:
Generally, who do you know that isn't affected by consumerism? For example, who lives without a TV or how many people do you know that don't enjoy nice things?
I'm just sayin'.

Enjoying nice things is not a terrible theory. Being comfortable is not bad either. The point is, as we begin to consume at the rate we do today, there becomes heavier consequences for our lives of luxury. Oil, basically worshipped like Jesus Christ, is depleting. It's not renewable. Almost all goods we produce contain some form of oil. Look at plastic. Also, we live so comfortably, as we own handheld gaming consoles, dvd players, cell phones, ipods, pda's, personal gps, televisions in our automobiles, as countries within africa have 16 computers per thousand people and are lucky to find a cellular phone. However, what do we do with our privileges and opportunities to be responsible consumers? We rape them. As you walk the halls of a highschool, you hear a girl complaining about not having a camera on her phone, or a boy complaining about how his internet does not run fast enough- this constant need to yell "HEY, stimulate me now, i'm not content with my environment, i need more and more and more," or "He who dies with the ( ... )
