Your dad's really awful. I never knew it was this bad back in the days when we e-mailed. Has it gotten worse, or did you just never talk about it? I remember when you lost all your CDs and he gave out to the principal, and helped find the guy that did it, and everything.
About the tattoo - what if you don't like HIM in years to come? I mean, in all fairness, they do suck, and you're bound to realise sometime. Find a value you think to be right - and for this I suggest reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand - and do that.

Also - selfishness, or rather, rational self-interest, which is, living for yourself, being an end in yourself, never sacrificing yourself for anything you don't believe in, never compromising with evil and acknoledging your own potential to be great, IS a virtue, so the next time your dad calls you selfish - for calling yourself more important him, from your perspective - say back to him, "yes I am. And I'm damn proud of it."
