OH MY GOD, YOU WILL LOVE IT. It just. I can't say enough about it, it is utterly cracked and brilliant. I am biased on this because I've been kind of sitting by the hearth listening to the tale as it's been spun over the past few years, so I feel like this mirrors the heartbeat of home. Just. Tony and Rhodey have a secret conversation about Nick Fury in a HARDEES PARKING LOT. I used to work at a Hardees in my teens and had many such conversations, just not, you know, involving Nick Fury or anything half so interesting.

YOU MUST TELL ME HOW YOU LIKE IT, I am going to be over here fighting the urge to gnaw my fingernails off.

Also, here's the thing: I never read military fic either. This fic treats the military like... okay, for lack of a better term, like a close family member: someone whose faults and foibles are well-known and understood. And it doesn't focus on the military, really; the military is just a fact, the way that Tony Stark's company is a fact in the normal Marvel 'verse. He's not out in battle, really, he's just... living, with the military a presence. If that makes any sense.

I really hope you enjoy it, because it is everything I could ever hope to write: funny, heartbreaking, spot-fucking-on characters with voices that are utterly familiar, an interesting plot, and an original take on Iron Man that I have never, ever seen before. Aaaaand there I go again but seriously I am so jealous of this story I could just DIE, so I am doing my best to spread the jealousy around so that at least I have a popular opinion, right?
