Okay, listening to Shirley Manson, plus watching a show that's hitting all my XF-y dark paranoid sensibilities, plus the fact that there are huge black SUVs loitering in front of The House That Shall Not Be Named across the street (complete with guys in sunglasses and black suits) and the fact that my husband kind of accidentally stole one of their

Also, YAY that you have succumbed to the awesomeness of SCC! Urm, just in time for the end of it, I fear.
Excellent analysis, really. I really feel like I need to come down with mono or something so I can sit down and rewatch the entire run of the show. It's so SMART and layered.

that the whole bullshit trope of nice girls smile, you've got such a pretty smile, you should smile more is shown up and used and manipulated and how the men always fall for it. THANK YOU, SHOW!
not just this-- but when the show does it, it feels more alien and creepy than Cameron when she's being a machine, and I love that, too.
I love that the whole premise of the show is to change the future, which is as you said, completely different from the usual avoid-changing-things-because-we-might-destroy-the-universe trope. Thing is, in the future, civilization has already been destroyed. So what do the people of the present have to lose by trying to change it? Not much. Which is fascinating.
I'm with you: I think the key to changing the future will lie with Cameron and John Henry, and how the humans treat them.

I adore that every time one of the female-shaped Terminators is acting "normal", it's as much a learned act for them as it is for human females. The first time we see Cameron, she's flirting with John ("I fooled you"); Cameron flirts with the guys in the bar before she sharks them at pool; Weaver flirts with Ellison the first time they meet. Granted, this also leads me to some uncomfortable ideas re: Terminators and sex, particularly with Vic and his "wife" in the equation. I'm not sure what to do with that.
But also that Sarah needs a grown-up relationship and please let it be with Derek. Please.Honestly, I feel like they're both too edgy and distrustful to have relationships with other people, particularly with I AM THE MOTHER OF THE SAVIOR OF HUMANITY and I AM A SOLDIER FROM THE FUTURE running neck-and-neck as very poor pick-up ( ... )

Yes! What an excellent point, well made.
Oh show, how I love thee.
Great post, btw. I'm particularly taken with the parallel between the Turk/JH-as-chess-machine and Future!John as a chess player using real people. Sarah has more to do than simply stopping Skynet: she has to keep her son human.
