I do have to add that when I dipped into White Collar fandom I was proud of the reaction to Elizabeth, Peter's wife (Peter/Neil being the two mains, and the obvious ship). Mostly this is solved by polygamy -- either all three together, or by Peter as a bisexual in committed relationships with both Neil and Elizabeth. Not sure how fair this is to Elizabeth, but the slash is just screaming to be written, and I've yet to see Elizabeth demonized. In fact, the general concensus is that she's kick-ass, despite having a fairly minor role.

you know, in that het ship with female minor character I could totally see myself and the Without a Trace fandom when Elena Delgado joined because that was exactly what happenned!! I can name a couple of people who actually liked her, but most (me included) just wanted her OUT.
And yes, I killed her in a fic. No regrets.

But I totally see your POV on this male/female double standar and is not fair.

Also, what I feel is that TPTB normally introduce female characters to hook them up with an already existing male character, while the other way around is not always the case, and maybe that contributes because she's turned into a couple before she can turn into a character - but i don't watch that many tv-shows, I may be wrong.
