When I first arrived, I didn't really expect I'd still be here when it came time for my birthday. Not that I thought about it extensively, but if I'd been asked, I would probably have said I thought I would be back home by now.

Five months. Compared to many people here it isn't long at all, of course. I suppose it was strange to believe I would have been sent back by now.
