2011-12-28 - Skeleton Key

Wish I had said words never spoken
What tokens had I counted mine
What promise made and never broken
What comes the flux and flow of time

Relish or savor, perhaps to taste
Precious moments with you stolen
A kiss, or was it your embrace
To make a tender heart so swollen

When standing near to each other
There exists a niche that changes state
A place untouched by time or space
This is the realm that we create

A bird that would fly west in Spring
Diverts its path to build a nest
With the leaves and twigs it brings
To build it here within my chest

All at once in a breath, a moment
Seized upon by truth revealed
As dueling dukes of love and madness
Choose my heart for a battlefield

Madness knows impending doom
A faceless peril that lurks ahead
Here a whisper, and there a vision
Portends of this approaching dread

But love exists without attachment
Unfettered, without future cares
Free from judgment and perdition
From sleeping fears stays unaware

Adjunct to the halls of dreams
Celestial in remote domain
Where these forces do their battle
Where rivers flow of blood like veins

Such it is, this key is yours
And stubborn will not call for aid
But if to help is your desire
This conflict can you then assuage

So as a nest built in my chest
Concealed within by rusted gates
Can open hence with your admission
To control the dukes there and the fates
