Getting Healthy in Ocala?

I've noticed there are an awful lot of gyms around Ocala, and I'm at the point where I need to lose weight to be healthy (aka - I'm really really fat). I'm looking for somewhere that doesn't have a lot of judgmental people and has a trainer or nutritionist or something that can help me out ( Read more... )

I have not found any gyms locally that are worth a damn. Compass and the other one by Best Buy are outrageously overpriced and Too Your Health Spa never has any treadmills when you need them. My wife and I have just started going to Jervy Gant and walking the track and doing the little exercise task along the way. She recently started doing Weight Watchers and goes to the classes in the Six Gun Plaza.

I stole her from Georgia when we got married and planted her in Ocala, so she has been pretty much friendless since the change over 3-years ago. If you want to chat more and you have a IM of sorts let me know and I will add you to my buddy list.

One issue I have with doing anything at parks is that I'm not a big fan of the outdoors and I'm pretty sure I'm too insecure to have other random people around while I'm getting all red faced.

I actually like Too Your Health Spa. They are inexpensive, and generally I have found the people there to be very nice and non-judgemental. I live in Belleview, and go to the one there as often as I can. I have fibromyalgia, so mainly I just swim and do light weights and light walking. It depends upon the time of day that you go, but I have never had a problem finding a treadmill.

If you would like to, you can contact me at merenwentari @ yahoo . com and we can nudge each other to go.

How do they charge? Is it weekly/monthly/yearly?

I'm in the shores, so I'm right near Belleview.

I believe you can do either month to month or a yearly rate. I think I actually paid around $175.00 for 18 months, but I'm not positive.

I live in Ocala, so when I had a membership at Too Your Health Spa I went to the one on the Blvd near Silver Springs and the one behind the College on 200 and between 6 and 8 PM it was always a nightmare in finding equipment to use without having to wait a while. It is good to know about the Belleview one as it is a little bit further away, but Too Your Health Spa was always the gym I chose because of the prices.

@ lezlishae

I believe it is a yearly membership fee.
