Danny and Tess Bump Into One Another

"If I'm concerned for you, then it's not because I'm your ex-husband. If anyone got involved with Benedict, I'd tell them the same thing. The only reason I'm more concerned for you is because I care for you more. You can call me jealous if you want to, if it makes you feel better."

Danny ordered the wine from the bartender.

"You care about me? I find that hard to believe after the way you lied to me. Did you honestly expect me to just get over it and tell you I loved you still? It's taken me a long time to get over what you did to me. And as soon as I do, you show up again, with a grudge against Terry."

"If you're right Danny," She paused and added as an afterthought, "Which you're not, then I'll find out for myself thank you."

"Oh, I don't doubt that for a moment Tess. You've never let anyone tell you what to do so far, so why change now? I'm just offering some friendly advice. What you choose to do with it is up to you."

Danny sipped at his drink as the bartender arrived with a glass of Chardonnay for Tess.

Danny's mobile sang out from his inside jacket pocket. The theme from Mission: Impossible almost seemed ironic.

Danny held a hand up to Tess. "Excuse me, Tess." He took the call with a hello that suggested he knew the caller well.

If Tess already had doubts about Terry, Danny was only serving to exemplify them. And she did.

"Why the interest? I mean, why now Danny? I haven't heard a thing from you in nearly three years and..." His phone began to ring and she stopped mid sentence, "...Sure."

She took the glass of wine from the bartender with a polite thankyou, taking a sip as he took the call. It gave her a moment to think things over, or it would if she wasn't so intent on trying to figure out a phone conversation from only hearing one side of it.

"Some bar".

"I met the Japanese women's volleyball team and we're having sushi." He took a moment to wink at Tess with a smile.

"When I'm finished. That okay Mom?"

"Okay."

"No that won't be enough, we're going to need another one."

"Eleven. Right."

"Okay."

Danny shut the phone and gave Tess his full attention once more.

"Sorry about that Tess, what were you saying?"
