I really feel like Jay-Z missed an opportunity in the music video for "Empire State of Mind". He could have totally had a shot in which he was standing in front of a JMZ subway station sign where is head is covering the "M" part and you can only see "J" and "Z" on either side. Hilarity!!! Too bad he isn't nearly as clever as I am! Too bad ( Read more... )

She really does need a chair, huh.

Clever girl.

Sometimes I say "clever girl" to people and then they think that I'm a freak who just goes around saying weird things like that with no reason whatsoever and then I have to explain that it's from "Jurassic Park" and then they look at me funny some more.

Does this mean that because you are intellectualizing Jay-z's song you are moving to New York?

Say yes.

At this point in time, that seems like my best option, but that is subject to change. Maybe when I'm there over break the lights will inspire me or something. I wrote a villanelle for Delcampo about that, once. I think.

I don't approve of Alicia Keys' role in this song.

That's the only part of the song I do approve of! She's putting out a Part II on her solo album.

Okay so first of all, after reading this post, I listened to the song and now I totally love it and am convinced that no other rap song exists. I also listened to a lot more Jay Z out of curiosity today and read both their Wiki bios.

Guess what Wiki says? "In his neighborhood, Carter was known as "Jazzy", a nickname that eventually developed into his stage name, "Jay-Z". The moniker is also an homage to his musical mentor, Jaz-O, as well as to the J/Z subway lines that have a stop at Marcy Avenue in Brooklyn.[9]"

So your idea is spot on! But that does make it even weirder that he didn't just go to that stop and include a shot of it.

I don't think she needs a chair. She looks so intense standing up.

Also I like her on the chorus in this song- her solo verse, not so much. And I love the way she bends the word inSPY YAH.

Oh man! I can't believe that was actually legit! Maybe he didn't want to be too obvious? I'm also really happy that you got so intense about this song, and I totally agree that her chorus is amazing.
