 Questions:  To spend this summer volunteering as a camp counselor with severely underprivileged children in New Orleans?  My friend said that it is "the most challenging but most rewarding thing I've ever done" and while that is a cliche I would tend to believe the truth of it when coming from her ( Read more... )

I would kill to spend more time in New Orleans. Though the summers in the South are completely disgusting. You should go unless you need the money you'd get from staying at home and working for the summer.

If all you'd do is hang around if you don't do it, I don't even think you have a choice to make. A month is more than enough time to say goodbye to people on one coast. Go do something meaningful for the rest of the summer.

Given the chance to decide again, I would've done summer camp last summer. I was worried that it would cost me too much money and that it might interfere with job opportunities (and that being one of the only grads doing it would make me feel weird about graduating). Instead, it was a time of unemployment for me, the most exciting fiascos of such probably cost me the same I would've spent in NOLA.
