Shows that End TOOO SOON. . .on bad notes, or are obliterated by those that create them.

Ok, so one of the biggest pet peeves I have about television (beyond the rating system, but that is an entirely different matter), is how shows are cancelled with loose ends. I hate that shows are cancelled and the network tells the show AFTER the final show has been filmed. So there is no chance to tie up loose ends, and in a lot of cases, there ( Read more... )

I so completely agree with you! I have to admit that this trend of randomly cancelling shows without giving the writers time to come up with a satisfying ending is also making me very wary of starting new series. I wathed "Alcatraz" for example last year and they decided to cancel it after one season... but they didn't tell the writers until after the final episode had aired! You can imagine the mess they left behind... UGH.

As for shows this unfortunate trend applies to... my biggest regret is the ending of Angel. Fans did whatever they could to ensure they would get at least another season but the network didn't care two bits. Result? Angel is open ended. The final scene is the gang going into battle. Will they win? Will they lose? No one will ever know. I hate this! Plus, the show the network put in Angel's place bombed and so the bastards asked actors and writers of Angel to come back.... but it was too late. Everyone had moved on already. Especially David Boreanaz who had landed Bones and had no time to be Angel anymore :(

ALCATRAZ!!! I loved that show. I hated that it was cancelled! A couple of years ago I stopped watching new shows unless there is a really compelling reason. You know, they have Gale Harold in them, or some other star I hold in high esteem. Instead, I wait until I know they are renewed, which in most cases is after the first season has aired or is nearing the end. Then I catch up on dvd when the second season is coming. Or sometimes the third. I like tidy endings. Like Charmed. Or Six Feet Under. With those shows, love or hate the endings, but there is little room for guessing. Of course, we could beat to death the endings (like QAF) that we hated, but again, at least they ended. I think there ought to be a clause. If a show lasts for a season OR more than 13 episodes, and is cancelled, then the network must provide a TV movie to tie up the loose ends. And what's with canceling shows that have only aired one or two episodes? People don't even have time to watch their DVRs before those go off the air! Sigh. I could go on and on and on ( ... )
