It's good that I'm a natural Sagittarian (and thus an outrageously optimistic person) because with the way this community is going - or dying should be action to describe the slow process - any mod would be ripping his/her hair out in no time. *chuckles*
I instead bring an offering of peace. Well...I hope it is of peace. Please God don't let me screw it.
Title: The Better Man
Fandom: Yu-Gi-Oh!GX
Characters: implied Ryo/Asuka, one-sided Daichi/Asuka
Word Count: drabble-ish really
Rating: PG-13
Universe: Manga, Canon
Summary: He wanted to beat that man so badly that he could hardly stand the wait...
The need for battle had never been greater. The want to test his strength and come out victor in the end never more burning.
He almost wanted to provoke the Ryo to a duel then and there. Man against man, beast against beast - a here and now as Judai would so eloquently put it - in an epic battle that the students of Duel Academy would talk about for years to come.
All because of a petty feeling called jealousy and a perfect girl named Asuka Tenjouin. Daichi clenched his fists tightly and pulled back against the shadows of the wall to avoid being spotted by anyone.
He'd followed Asuka outside with the sole intention of consoling her for her loss against that cruel bastard. It had been a despicable duel in the sense that it hadn't given her a chance to prove her superior skills. That was why...that was why he'd wanted to offer her a few kind words and see the smile that he had come to love so much.
As a man and not a duelist.
Daichi had hoped for a few intimate moments - among the rare, almost non-existent ones they'd shared - between just the two of them. All that had, of course, come down the moment he had spotted Ryo approaching her, his voice hushed, his eyes unusually soft and full of worry...missing the steely, dangerous quality he usually possessed. Just a man talking to a woman.
Enough to set his teeth on the edge and bring the little green monster out to the surface. Worse, such a close encounter had the potential to remind him of all the rumors he had heard when he had first come to this Academy - about the Kaiser and the Ice Queen. Distance did nothing to dispel the fondness after all. Girls adored him, guys wanted her but in the end those two made such a cute couple. One could not help but cheer for their happy ending.
He spun on his heel and marched purposefully away from the - troubling - sight to clear his mind before he did something stupid. Like, forfeiting the official match and strangling the Academy champion with his own bare hands.
Ryo and Asuka sitting in a tree...
In the safety of darkness, Daichi swore under his breath and punched the wall nearest to him. Then weakly slid against it to sit on the cold floor. Rather dejectedly in his opinion. How pathetic.
Why couldn't his life be more simple? Like, win the Tournament, get the girl and have his friends support him? Ryo had those and to top his misery, he had fame, wealth and adoring crowds too. And nobody else but Daichi cared - Judai wouldn't know what to do with any of those, Jun would either jump forward to prove that he was worthy or run away like hell and Sho...well, Sho and Judai were too alike in this matter.
Daichi blinked and stood up abruptly, stomach lurching almost painfully. Time was almost gone. He needed to move...
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
That pretty face, those polished shoes and well-fitting clothes...
"Daichi Misawa...ah, I see, so you're about to be in the semifinals with Judai Yuuki, huh?"
How could he walk so confidently, act so cool, talk so detachedly? It was driving him into distraction to know that, even now, all he could think about was how utterly unadequated he was compared to Ryo.
"Kaiser...I want to fight against you! As a duelist and as a man!" Words, words, words...big words full of the confidence that he was severely lacking. Because he was fighting Judai and Judai wasn't to be underestimated and...
Daichi shut his mental ramblings down forcefully, trying to focus on the matter at hand and on Ryo who didn't even bother to face him properly.
"Then win this tournament. That is certainly the fastest way to fight me!"
And then he was gone. With that careless statement, he was gone. Just like that. The bastard.
Daichi fisted his hands, uncaring if he drew blood or not.
That bastard! He was just begging for it...
It was his greatest wish. Daichi wanted Asuka - just how much was left to be seen though - but above all he wanted payback and he wanted it bad enough to forget everything and everyone. He wanted victory against Ryo so much that he didn't even blink when Sho and Asuka wished him luck or when the crowd went wild - drunk with the promise of a great battle between two strong opponents.
"Misawa..."
"Judai, let's have ourseleves a fun duel!"
Ryo Marufuji was going to regret the day he had mocked him! Of that at least, Daichi was sure.
I really, really think it could've been better, but I've written and rewritten it so many times this last month or so that I'm getting sick of seeing it unfinished. >___>
