I've been AWOL from fandom for a while: putting on a play, looking for a job, being slightly depressed and uninspired. I'm still slightly depressed and uninspired, but I just read this column by Cary Tennis in response to a woman who says that she's addicted to Harry Potter fanfiction. It made me a little less depressed.

Thank you for posting this. My roommates and I read fanfiction all the time, but lately I have been frustrated by their shame of doing so. I have been trying to explain to them that it isn't something to be ashamed of and there are many worse things to be addicted to. Now, with this, I have a more eloquent person saying what I was trying to say. So thanks again for posting this. Also, I just want to say that I hope you feel better soon. All the fans of your writing miss you very much! ::gives you a reassuring pat on the back::

You're welcome, and thanks for your kind words! I have intermittently been ashamed of reading and writing fanfic, but I think it's time to get over that.
