East Mountain Road back home, and a pony named Toby, probably eight years gone at least. He threw me at Bridleway the first time I ever cantered, that controlled run. I wept with the fear, eight or maybe nine years old, and my trainer told me why he'd thrown me, how to stay on. To work through the fear. To ride through it. And so I did.
