Three of the seasons are on DVD in Region 2 but only two seasons (there are four, 13 to a season) on DVD in Region 1. I still think it's hysterical that anyone would think it was a good idea to reissue the series in *higher* resolution but there's an episode ("Shadow") where close inspection shows that the crime lord's lair is wallpapered with bas-relief panels with an alternating design of breasts and buttocks.
Once you've seen a few more episodes, let me know if you'd like to borrow my extensive collection of (mostly) slash paperzines--the B7 fic available online is only the tip of the iceberg. Although if you're spoilerphobic, a tremendous amount of the fiction is "PGP" ("Post-Gauda Prime," fanwanking the events of the last episode, on the planet Gauda Prime) so perhaps zines should not be introduced too early in the course of therapy fannish experience.
I am pretty sure I saw one of the viewscreens wobble noticably in the second episode, and that wasn't even a digital copy. On the other hand, the look of the sets isn't bad for late 70's British sci-fi, especially considering they were probably made for the price of my monthly rent.
As for the costumes, I have yet to see any studded leather armor. I am not sure whether to be relieved or disappointment. The haircuts, though, are truly awful.
I'm definitely looking forward to reading B7 fic and appreciate your offer. Two of the big advantages to this project: not only will I understand more icons, but I'll have more fic to read! It's a classic example of time-suck begatting time-suck.
Thanks for reading, and hope you enjoy. The series seems to be rather difficult to track down in the US. Without buying any DVD's I have gotten my hands on the first 4 episodes but nothing else from the first season. (There's a bit of a lag between when I watch and when I post.) I may have to skip over to the second season as the rest doesn't seem to be available around here.
OK! I shall dispatch some zines for your reading pleasure! In the meantime, the main archive is http://www.hermit.org/Blakes7, although I confess a preference for the more modest http://www.liberated.org/uk. Hermit has the Sevencyclopaedia, an amazing labor of fannish love well worth a time-wasting browse.
I can also lend you some tapes, although you have to swear to give them back after you watch or dupe them, because, as you say, they're not easy to find.
Obviously someone in the production staff had a *serious* leather fetish, so it's hard to tell just what studded leather armor you mean, but I think you mean Travis'...unusual...military couture, which doesn't turn up until S106.
I have distinct memories of seeing a Blake's 7 ad with some guy with dark hair in black leather armor (clothing, whatever) with silver studs and thinking: Aha! This is what my brother is talking about for his Dungeons and Dragons game.
At the time, the local PBS station was replacing Doctor Who with Blake's 7 and the Prisoner. I started my fannish cancellation piques early and refused to watch both. My loss, obviously.
I will not go read fanfic until I've seen more episodes.

Came this way because executrix mentioned on a comment on my LJ that you were starting to view and then review B7. As a long-time fan of the show, although I haven't seen it in ages, I thought it would be interesting to see the show from another POV, and a new one, at that. :) I've friended you so that I can keep up with the reviews. You're welcome to friend me back. My LJ is FO, btw, and if you do friend it, let me know and I will put you in my filters. Don't have one for B7 or the Joss 'verse at the moment, but do have filters for Doctor Who and Harry Potter set up.
Something that Terry Nation may or may not have said about B7, or in these words, but I use them all the time to describe B7 to those who haven't seen it yet (note the operating word yet: the Hollywood high concept of B7 is this: Robin Hood and his band of not-so-merry men and women fighting the outer space Nazis. I also warn folks that the costumes, the settings, and the SFX are not the best, but that the acting, the writing, and the directing are amongst the best that filmed

Welcome, and thanks for the post! I am a completist so was probably doomed to seeing the series in order, but I can definitely see how it would help to start with Space Fall. The pilot really is a bit odd -- good, but almost completely unlike everything else I've seen so far. Even Blake seems like a very different character
