So, like, it's been forever since I've written anything. Sorry. I gots distracted by the shiny Harry Potter fanfiction. And Criminal Minds, which I have recently found and it is awesome. Reid is awesomely nerdy/genius. If you haven't seen it, go, go now! XD
Anyways, I was bored tonight, so I wrote this. Please be gentle.
Reiko walked through the town slowly, humming a tune softly as she surveyed the people hurrying past her. She had learned early in life that the ones who hurried were the easiest people to lift from, seeing as how they almost always had a destination they were hurrying to.
Spotting a man going in the opposite direction with a purse heavy enough to be worth her while, yet light enough where it wouldn’t be missed right away, Reiko smiled. “Perfect,” she whispered, changing her direction to follow the man.
Five minutes later she was ducking into an alley way to change the money to her own purse bag, carefully hidden, and ditching the evidence. Humming softly, Reiko decided that her bag was full enough for the day and headed to the nearest Jester accountant. Thankfully, Holly was just a few streets down.
Whistling now, Reiko pulled her hat further down and hunched her shoulders, just another face in the crowd. It took her another five minutes to get to Holly’s but luckily no one was at the bakery, or at least no non Jesters, so she didn’t have to wait. It could get so annoying when that happened, but she usually got a free sticky bun out of it, so it was okay.
Just as she was leaving the bakery, thoughts of an afternoon nap playing out, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. Turning to the left she saw Finn, a runner boy for Triumph waving from down the street as he ran towards her. ‘Well, there goes that plan,’ Reiko thought wryly. Her leisure plans never seemed to work out.
Turning fully towards the boy, who was panting slightly from the running, Reiko raised a questioning eyebrow. “Yes?” Finn gave her a quick smile before sucking in his breath and saying, “Thom said to tell you that Sano told him that he wanted to spend the afternoon with you because you never ever ever do anymore and that he’ll be at Triumph so you better come pick him up.”
Reiko blinked before laughing softly. “You’ve been practicing that whole all-in-one-breath thing haven’t you?” she questioned, genuinely amused. Finn flashed her another smile, but otherwise didn’t answer. Rolling her eyes, Reiko sighed and said, “Well, let’s go then. Knowing my brother he’ll probably be annoying somebody by now.” Finn snickered and turned to lead the way.
Ten minutes later and Reiko was waving goodbye to Finn as she walked through the front doors of the pub. Apparently messenger boys always went through the kitchen. Personally, Reiko just thought it was an excuse to snag some food from unsuspecting women with soft hearts, but she never said anything. Out loud.
Shaking her head with a smile, she looked around the crowded room for her rascal of a brother, pausing when she finally spotted him. Taking in the sight of her brother and the princess, apparently best friends already, Reiko gave an amused huff. Looks like she would be meeting the royal party sooner then she had thought.
Making her way towards them, Reiko smiled fondly as Sano finally noticed her. His eyes lit up as he smiled wide enough to break his face, waving enthusiastically from his seat. As soon as she was within reach, he launched himself at her with a happy, “Reiko!”
Laughing at his enthusiasm, Reiko ruffled his hair gently, saying, “Hey little brother, what have you been up to? Not bothering these people are you?”
“Nu-uh!” he replied, still grinning, “They invited me over and me and Touka have been talking about the carnival coming up next week.”
“Hmm, that’s nice. But what’s this I hear about you telling people that we ‘never ever ever’ hang out? I hardly think four days constitutes such extreme language.”
Here Sano looked down, a sheepish look on his face. The royal party, as Reiko had dubbed them, looked amused at the by-play between the two siblings. Smiling indulgently down at her brother, Reiko said, “Well, I wasn’t busy today anyways, so we can go anytime you’re ready.”
With that Sano immediately perked up, his eyes shining as he said, “Now, I’m ready now!” Turning towards this table mates, he gave a wave and said, “Bye! Thank you for letting me sit at your table.” Grabbing Reiko’s hand he began to pull her towards the door.
Reiko smiled indulgently and let herself be pulled, but before they got too far away, she turned her head and said, “Yes, thank you. And it was nice to finally meet the princess and her royal babysitters.” She let out a laugh as Sano dragged her out of the pub.
The shock on their face was priceless.
