*smiles slightly* I agree with your analogy for 2011, that's where I feel that I've been as well. That same, 'Will it ever get back to good' quasi-defeatist feeling, will still being on the edge of something new and better. I also am right there with you in terms of discarding the thoughts of alternate universe selves. At some points in time, mostly financially I regret some of my decisions (my recent move, for example) but then I take a deep breath and a step back an try to appreciate it simply for the experience of doing it.
I always love talking to you and reading what you have to say, very few people give me new perspectives on life (that's not meant to sound like a pompous dick in the least, it's just simply how thing have been up til now) but you've always got something new to add to the conversation even if we end up agreeing.
Aww thanks Souji. I've told Mal this a couple of times but usually I have a gut feeling on things, whether to answer "yes" or "no", go left or right while lost and it's probably 98% right most of the time. The problem is that I tend not to listen to it and get bogged down in intellectual duldrums, but writing things down like this helps me think through it and get to the core, which usually I already know.
It's unusual to see the 'regret' quote so much, I think it's a very natural human emotion; we are creatures of habit but only after we make mistakes--although I'll agree it's very unpleasant. It's always best to look forward in the hope of improvement. A comparison that I do allow myself to do is to think if there is anything I would say to myself ten years ago, any advice or mantras to follow. Usually this comes as some variant as, "Take care of yourself" and "It will be fine".

Hope all is well,
