I got to see the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today and I have to say that, apart from one or two things, it was really well done and enjoyable.
It‘s a bit sad that they avoided the awkward but slightly sweet farewell scene between Dudley and Harry (I always liked the fact that Dudley did seem to realise a couple of things in the end), but I kind of expected that to be left out.
On the other hand, I‘m so glad they included Hermione using magic on her parents, it is a lovely way of showing how horrible the entire situation has become and I loved Harry looking into his old cupboard in a moment of nostalgia.
I was fairly amused by the fact that someone in an influential position seems to be a bit of Harry/Hermione shipper. I have to say, I kind of liked their dance in the tent, I‘m a fan of cute and awkward.
As for the Ginny/Harry scene, I had imagined it to be worse (although I don‘t hate the pairing like some people I know, I‘m just not a great fan of soppy het scenes). George in the background simply stole the entire scene.
I‘m glad that there was a fair amount of Luna in the movie and that we at least got a glimpse of Neville, since I love these two underestimated characters. And no, watching the movie has not been able to convince me that Xenophilius Lovegood is sexy instead of creepy, inspite of what some of my friends say….
The sequence of the Tale of the Three Brothers story was simply amazing! Those arty silhouettes were a beautiful way to put the story into the movie and it was quite possibly my favourite part.
The way they portrayed Bellatrix‘ outburst against the snatchers at Malfoy Manor wonderfully depicted her insanity and blood-lust. Talking about snatchers, Greyback could have been a lot more gruesome-looking… Oh, and I‘m sad they didn‘t have the albino peacocks! They were one of the most awesome things about Malfoy Manor…
Go ahead, tell me it wouldn‘t have been amazing!
The one thing I am absolutely disappointed about is the way they had Grindelwald practically telling Voldemort to search Dumbledore‘s grave. Whatever happened to "Kill me, then, Voldemort… there is so much you do not understand…“ And of course, I‘m not telling you that my ex-boyfriend had it… Couldn‘t they have left us slashers at least the tiny illusion that Grindelwald cared about Dumbledore at least a little bit, that he at least wanted to protect his grave from Voldemort? Oh well, I guess the not so cliff-hangy cliff-hanger was more important… :-(
All in all, the movie had an adequately dark atmosphere, but there were also plenty of funny moments. I‘m glad it turned out so well, after the Half-Blood Prince was fairly disappointing. And yes, I‘m pretty sure I‘ll be going back to the cinema to watch it a second time. ;-)
