When I first read about Tim Hwang's showcase in Kuala Lumpur, I was a bit meh... Check out the full title of the showcase.. prince of ballads? I thought that was sung si kyung?
Tim Hwang is one of those ballad singers that i'm vaguely aware of, from his New Beginnings album. I remember wondering who the heck he was because one of Jaejoong's fanmeet tickets could only be purchased if they buy Tim's fanmeet or concert ticket as well - dont remember if i was talking about it re the indonesian fanmeet with
s3adolphin or the thailand fanmeet with
kokayz Anyway, since it's in KL and pricing is quite reasonable (VIP tix is approx USD68 which includes a cd - standing only), i decided to go... Such a difficult decision to make - mind you, this was just a week after my SM Town adventure and hubby would not be too pleased with me gallivanting off to a kpop thingy again)
Me: Hubby, you wanna come with me to a music showcase? It's in HardRock Cafe
Hubby: In Hardrock KL?
Me : yeah (?? where else??)
Hubby : How would i know? My wife has gone international with her concerts and fanmeets!
Me : (!!! :D but happy coz he decided to come with me)
Showcase was at 3pm, and i only reached the place at 3pm :D , not a lot of people there, maybe 20 max (about 100 in the fanmeet). A bit irritated during the registration process - one of the organisers interuptted us and squuealed "you must take care of these 2 guests ok!! they are my VIP guests!!!" The 2 guests looked like media, with their dslr cameras, but then i got to know them and they are actually fans. Ok lah, i know the organisers was probably trying to make them feel important, but hey, i paid the same price for the ticket too you know!
I got the New Beginnings cd for free, and bought the other CD, Saranghae which was newly released.
I remember thinking when i got into the area - oh my, if we can have homin or jyj in such a cosy, intimate venue, it's really jackpot man!! at the same time i recall feeling sorry for the organisers because i'm sure the fanmeet was a money losing affair.
Tim is described as a strapping 183cm singer, but even with the heels he's probably about 178cm? He's tall enough for an Asian, pleasant looking enough, why have to stick "strapping" to describe him? I find that in real life, he's a lot better looking than the New Beginnings look, but the face is not as chiselled as the Saranghae album cover. Judge for yourself. Nice arms.
I can confirmed that skinnies on kpop singers are really skinny. I told hubby i felt sorry for them.. no.. ventilation..
Lots and lots of fan service .... got 4 girls to sing the chorus of his hit song Saranghamnida, he's supposed to choose a winner but of course he chose all 4.. The girl on the far right (in grey) is from indonesia. she's a very good singer, and brought him cupcakes and sunglasses.
... he acts in the Legally Blonde musical in Korea, and got one of the fans to go up on stage to re-enact a scene when she's the student sulking with him (he's the teacher) and he's trying to placate her and telling her how much far she can go... i find the concept really icky.. if my teacher did that to me i would have reported him to the education ministry for inappropriate behaviour (notwithstanding that student teacher fanfics with our 5 boys are perfectly fine :D .. double standards i know..)
She's supposed to sulk, but she was so overwhelmed that she just couldnt do it.. i think she was from indonesia as well, and she was chosen because she could name the exact town Tim was born in.

Rewarded with a hug, she almost cried.
Tim is a good singer, very good Live, and good crowd interaction. HIs english is flawless of course since that's his first language. He's the son of a pastor and went to Korea in 2002 (i think), debuting with the hit song saranghamnida. There was one video segment which showed who covered Saranghamnida - it's very popular indeed.... DBSK, Ryeowook, Taemin, Se7en, and i dont know who else.. the video was badly edited, in any case, the video was shown on the small wall hung 32" tvs so we were all craning our necks to see ...
I think Saranghamnida is easily Tim's most popular song, and it was remade as the title song for the indonesian soap that he starred in. The song is available in the Saranghae albume - track 1 is the indonesian version with Astrid - his bahasa indonesia is not bad at all!, and track 10 is the original korean version.
Here is his duet with Astrid, nice right - with lyrics and translations :)

He obligingly signed my 3 albums and took a photo with me.
Heard he's coming out with a new cd in 2013, hope he has a concert then too.. hopefully his fan base in Indonesia is still strong enough next year to justify a concert.

Article about the fanmeet
http://hype.my/2012/12/the-korean-prince-of-ballads-he-speaks/ Oh... then that night i went for the j. lo concert. It was raining, then drizzling, the concert organizers made us stand outside for one hour in the rain, then we went in.. VIP seats are on the field, no cover,
waited another 30 minutes for j.lo to turn up and this is the view from seat
This is the first time i attend a concert and cannot see where the singer is . She sang for 1.5 hours then left. Hubby and i left at that point. I heard she came back for a 20 mins encore
