Reynolds and River, the Rowdy Roofy Rovers?

One thing that really bothers me is when an author makes a really big deal out of Jayne "never kissing on the mouth." In Firefly, this practice is revealed in the following dialogue from Our Mrs. ReynoldsMAL: I was poisoned ( Read more... )

I wrote a story where Jayne and Simon were guarding a warehouse and had run out of entertainment options; Jayne checked to see if they'd been there long enough for any Good Night Kiss Simon happened to be wearing to have worn off. They had, so smooching ensued.

Okay. That's very fair.

I don't know if Simon would, but I certainly think Jayne would be suspicious of him.

But I hope we have an understanding on this topic. We must, we must. I can't take many more mentions of it!

Hehe.. did you ever read the shooting scripts? In Heart of Gold when Jayne is in the room with his whore, when she's trying to kiss him he's trying to move away so she doesn't kiss him on the mouth - I can't remember if that was actually in the episode, but it was amusing to read. A whore I can understand... yick.

Well that makes complete sense! If you're going to distrust anyone, distrust a ho.

Well, it's kind of below Inara, but hey, Saffron'd been there, done that.

Yeah, but I do agree.. I don't think he would hold the same thought for one of the crew.

Anyway, why did you defriend me on the other journal?? Did I do something to piss you off, because if I did I have no idea what it would be. (I'm hoping it was just a fluke...) :((

Oh sorry! I defriended you and glock momentarily because friends of mine have started making comments about the growing frequency of weirdly homoerotic fannish posts all over my friends page.

Then I just sat there and stared at the screen and didn't know what to do instead so I added you both back but I guess I slipped up. You're added back.

It's just more and more people are reading my journal and I don't know where to draw the line. Blah.

Can you not do Y!M anymore? I'm avoiding people on AIM... ^_^;;

I've used the whole 'don't kiss on the mouth' thing before, mostly because I think it adds another layer to Jayne's skeevy-ness. It's just another reason why he's so not classy or something. But I also think that Jayne wouldn't make hard-and-fast rules. I think he'd have to break them sometimes, so I don't believe he never kisses on the mouth.

I think this device can be used well (I've seen it used well), but I agree with you that it can be overblown. Especially if it gets paired up with extreme emotionality or something.

Well, maybe Mal might, but only as a joke.

Hahahahaa. Yes. I could see that. (I can also hear him saying, afterwards, "What? It was a joke!" as the rest of the crew look at him askance. Wash is maybe smiling behind his hand.)
