Season Finales--Aaahhhh!!!

May 25, 2005 22:28

What's with the trend this year of killing off cast members in TV series finales? I'm finding it very disturbing. Add to that the ones who quit their jobs, fake their deaths, or are buried alive, and you have one traumatic week. The Desperate Housewives finale nearly destroyed me. And I haven't even seen the Lost finale yet ( Read more... )

Delicious crack! Delicious Derevko crack!

Mmmm. I had the tastiest time Alias-watching. Next season they should make sure they release it without commercials and with good friends and tequila close at hand. The ratings will SKYROCKET.

Hee. They need to offer continuing-education Derevko classes. I would SO sign up.

There wouldn't be a shortage of classes, that's for sure. Everything from "Ass-Kicking 101" to "Treason for Fun & Profit" to "Having a Child Without Your Husband Knowing." All the while looking...perfect. Whee!

I kind of liked the Desperate Housewives finale, but it was a heck of a cliffhanger.

Soap operas are kind of like comic books though: we never saw the body, so there might not have been a death.

Good point! I see much drama ahead for Bree. She just broke my heart. :(

That was a pretty powerful scene. I have a lot more regard for her as an actor now (not that I thought she was particularly bad before, or anything).

Yeah, I know what you mean. She's an Actress instead of Flavor of the Week.

What do you think is gonna happen? I predict she'll get involved with George at the same time she gets investigated for Rex's murder, and won't find out that George was to blame until way late in the season.

Man, I love that show...

Damn. You're right. As Randi Rhodes says, "They canceled the news." Sigh.

Hey, they canceled the news years ago.

I think TV has finally learned something from wunderkind-Buffy creator Joss Whedon. Joss had no qualms about killing off popular recurring or even regular characters because that meant that the suspense was truly sustained through a season and the stakes (pun intended) were higher - because you knew that anyone could really die (including Buffy, several times) None of this, oh, they're one of the stars of the show, no way would they kill them off - well, WAY!

Yeah, Joss was a pioneer. So was Rob Tapert--Xena and Gabrielle died conveniently at the end of seasons a time or two. I guess it all started way back with Dallas and J.R. getting shot. Damn those cliffhangers!

NO SHIT! I swear, I thought it was just me! And the non-fatality finales are often featuring "character is leaving" moments along with the "character in jeopardy" moments! Cold Case, Without a Trace, LOST, CSI Miami (yes, it's total crap, but it's candy-colored crap and it's good for a mindless evening), Crossing Jordan (I WILL NOT WATCH THIS SHOW IF MIGUEL FERRER LEAVES)... and I've still got several finales on my TiVo.

It's the year of death!

I watch all the CSIs too, and Miami is fun, if for no other reason than to watch David Caruso morph into William Shatner. Also, NCIS killed off their female lead in a way similar to Without a Trace (what a shocker that was!). I don't know if I can bear to watch Lost for a few days...
