These Days

I seem to have lost my will to blog lately. Getting adjusted to my new schedule and watching practically no television has made me rather insulated. I'll get back to a more normal routine, but for now, this seems to work. Let's hit the high spots:
  • The house is really coming together. The rug for my library should be here any day, and that will ( Read more... )

It's a long and painful process. :P But the best part is, I'm no longer tempted by unhealthy food--I keep thinking about how hard I worked to get where I am. "I had to do 3 sets of 25 lunges--no way am I having ice cream!" LOL

Sometimes I'd swear we were separated at birth! robiwho August 10 2005, 16:33:03 UTC
Libeled Lady is a great film! I often hide my encyclopedic knowledge of classic Hollywood for fear of being exposed as the huge geek that I am. Occasionally, however, I just have to educate the uninitiated -- like when my best friend told me a few years ago that she had never seen Casablanca. I was horrified, and not just because it's my single favorite movie of all time.

My book club is reading The Historian in October. It was my suggestion so I was really pleased when everyone else went for it. I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying it -- I can't wait to read it!

Haha, I agree! I'm glad to know I'm not the only classic film fan out there; sometimes it feels like that's the case. Have you seen Unfaithfully Yours (the Preston Sturges version)? The Awful Truth? Twentieth Century? So many great comedies... I think my favorite is The Women, with all the Scarlett O'Hara rejects. ;)

Let me know what you think of The Historian--I'll be very interested in your opinion. There's a lot of traveling about in it, which can be distracting at first, but once the story takes hold, wow! I've purposely been reading only a couple of chapters a day to make it last.

Oh, and I'm sorry I didn't make it to Chicago for ALA. Any chance you'll be at Midwinter?

I love all those movies and I swoon at the very thought of The Women. I heard an interview with Isaac Mizrahi on Fresh Air where he said that he considered The Women the absolute apex of 20th century fashion -- and I was desperately hoping that I wasn't the only person listening who knew exactly what he meant!

I only go to ALA when it's in Chicago, which is kind of a relief after having to go to Annual and Midwinter when I worked there.

It's great to hear what you're up to! I bet I would like Libeled Lady-- I like very early cinema, too! And I would never make fun of it or you. :-)

And I thought The Historian looked interesting when I read about it in EW, so I was glad to hear what you think of it. And just when I wanted some reading recommendations! I'll check it out.

Glad things are good with you--- take care.

:-) Patty

I think you'd love both the film AND the book! Always great to hear from you. I've been reading, but not doing a lot of commenting lately. That will change as I get settled in a bit more. Take care!
