Decisions, Decisions

I'm going to be getting a new car next week. After much research, I've narrowed it down to two, both Hondas. I test-drove them yesterday, hoping that it would clarify things, but it didn't--they're both great vehicles with nice features. Either would be fine; it's just that they're so different. Do I want a luxury car or a sporty SUV? They're ( Read more... )

I'm getting the new 06 accord coupe as soon as I get back to the states. (not vacation).

I've done my research and it is all the car I need. The only that that would make it better would be RWD, but hey it's a commuter vehicle, not a race car.

Yeah, it's sweet. I currently have an Eclipse, so I'm used to a fast car. I was really impressed with its acceleration and handling.

When are you coming back for good?

uh, I dunno. I'm here as a contractor so it's all up in the air.
not for a while at least.
and I still have another deployment comming up with my unit sometime in the future. So it's hard to tell.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Though if you're still feeling productive and useful, that's a good thing.

Send me your address--I'll be going into my post-Thanksgiving baking frenzy, and I'd like to send the goods to somewhere they'll be appreciated. :)

you know, for just a few grand more you can have the hybrid.

37 mpg rather than 20. same 255hp v6.
it all would depend on wether the individual trim items matter that much to you.

They had a 2005 hybrid on the lot. Sticker said it got only 29 MPG (as opposed to 20 for the regular model). Price was over $30K, which is a little too far out of my price range. Since the mileage isn't in Prius territory, calculations showed me that it wouldn't be worth it for me. But yeah, I thought about it.

Damn good question! Early on, I'd decided against another sports car--I was just too traumatized about the Eclipse. But now, that's not an issue. Hmm. HMMM. I should go test drive one, shouldn't I! Tomorrow!

Do you love yours? Is it a problem to not have any cargo or passenger space? Anything else I should know?

I know you decided on a Honda but before you make a decision, have you checked out Toyota? The toyota camry is just as nice, if not nicer than then Accord and I gets better mileage. Same as the smaller SUV, the RAV 4 in comparison to the CR-V. Toyotas generally get better mileage than any other comparision in each car category and the horsepower is equivalent. Plus, they last a long time.

I'm just a Toyota fan and Toyota will take over the world one day in its awesomeness.

Haha! I had a Toyota Celica all through college, and it was great. I did check the RAV4. It has a lot to recommend it. Same with the Kia and Hyundai SUVs. I ended up at Hondaville because soooo many people had such good things to say about reliability. But hey, I'll give them a look tomorrow when I go test drive Miatas. :)

i like the accord personally. Unless you have some special reason to have an SUV.

I'm just not thrilled about the idea of a sedan, however nice. I couldn't tell you why. Interestingly, the CR-V gets better gas mileage.

Part of the charm of the SUV and why it appeals to us middle americans is the subtle, unconscious desire to be able to escape urban life at a moment's notice. IMO unless you actually use your car for outdoor sports, don't get it. Get the sporty Miata you originally wanted if you are looking for something fun. :)

Good luck!

PS What the heck is the gas mileage on a CRV v. Accord?

But...the CR-V has a picnic table! And so many cool features!

Mileage: 22/29 for the CR-V; 20-27 for the Accord. That's because the CR-V has a 4-cylinder engine and the Accord has a 6-banger.

After looking last weekend, I've decided to go with my original instince and not get another sports car. If I had a second car, it would be great, but I'm tired of having to be on alert all the time. I want to relax a bit!
