I have trouble conceiving of families that last 1400 years, let alone a family business. I just have no experience with that kind of sweeping history. My maternal tree goes back to, roughly, the 1600s. My paternal tree, not so far. Two generations, three tops. But that's supposed to be the traditional American Experience, isn't it? Severing the ties that bind us to the Old World in favor of this rugged, New World, where we can Seek our Fortunes and make a life for ourselves. Or something like that. I'm supposed to be sleeping, but it is one of those nights and I'm up reading LJs and listening to embarrassing music on iTunes.

Congratulations on the job offer. I'd tell you I think you should take it, but I know next to nothing about it so my advice would be next to useless. Also, there's nothing wrong with wanting to do a job well, no matter what the job. Well, okay, there are certain jobs one shouldn't aspire to do well, but this is clearly not one of those.
