Things are getting better... slowly.

Laurel started fourth grade yesterday and I forgot to take a first day of school photo, but I'll get one sometime this week. She helpfully told me after dinner tonight that the pre-purchased school supplies I bought for her back in May were not delivered to her classroom, so I fired off a few e-mails to figure out what happened with that.

We have an appointment next week for rent/utility assistance since Kevin's first full paycheck is September 11th and we have bills due before then. After we paid our rent late this month and only made the rent, not the late fees, we are already not off on a good foot with the new company since they don't see the eight prior years of on-time payments. Oh well.

I rescheduled Kevin's VA appointment that was supposed to be today to mid-September so we will have money for that and the prescriptions already sent to him.

The good news is with a bit of help from a friend, I went grocery shopping yesterday and made bank on markdown finds: a big box of Honey Nut Cheerios (over half off - dented), a regular box of Quaker fruit and cream oatmeal (my favorite, also dented), snacks for Laurel on loyalty card sale (4th grade lunch is at 10:40 AM), and a bakery markdown bag of bagels. Also got regularly low-priced things we needed like margarine, eggs, milk and flour, since Laurel is tearing through the bread nearly as fast as I an bake it. Just before Laurel came home we used a few coupons from another friend to get some meat products and have learned that Owens bulk sausage doesn't trigger Kevin's issue with cooking pork smell and that Laurel will indeed eat bratwurst.

The weather's going to cool off a little after Wednesday so I'll be more coherent in a few days. I have overheated the past two days walking to/from school in the afternoon, even with my trusty sun hat and a 32oz water bottle. I don't think I will miss the heat this winter.
