Requested Drabble For the_iscariot
"You know Severus," Luna began as she propped her elbows on the table watching the cards being dealt carefully. "I find this game to be rather frivolous. I mean I don't really see the point. A series of numbers and different suits to accomplish what exactly? All it does is prove the winner to be a person of luck at that moment in time."
Severus arched his brow and smirked a little. It was that smirk that almost served as a smile, the one he offered when he was amused about something. "Perhaps there is a little more than luck involved." So far luck had favored them both. Six hands into the game and the chips on either side of the table mirrored each other.
Shrugging she picked up her share of the cards and began to situate them in her hand. With her elbows propped up the way they were, all he could see were her eyes. She raised an eyebrow and smirked laying four cards on the table. "Four please."
"Four? You can't have..."
"Unless I have an Ace in my hand. I'm well aware of the rules father, now would you like to see the card I have in my hand or would you rather oblige my request so we can continue our frivolousness?"
He stared at her for a long moment, almost as if he was trying to see through the single card she was holing in front of her face...or better yet read her mind. It only took a few minutes for him to suddenly seem content with her discard and slide four more cards her way, before taking two for himself.
Both of their faces were expressionless as they looked at their cards. "All in," Luna said simply shoving all her chips into the pot with gracefulness of course.
And then came the arching eyebrow and smirk again. "Are you sure about that Terrorist?" He couldn't believe he was giving her a chance to change her mind...but there it was. The look she gave him was pointedly condescending enough that it caused him to actually laugh a little. "Very well then." Pushing all his chips towards hers he continued to smirk. "I would say I'm sorry child but I have to admit that would be a lie..."
"The spy opting out of a lie? I should document this somewhere..."
Displaying his cards Severus left the comment unaddressed continued to smirk. "Four of a kind, Jack high."
She looked crushed for a moment. "Oh...well all I have is the Ace..." Luna threw the ace onto the pot then smirked and proceeded to add the king, queen, jack, and ten to the pile. "Did I mention that it comes with it's own royal court? And oh look at all the pretty red hearts!"
He. Just. Stared. "You...how did..."
"You might have read my mind but I have a few of my own tricks. Luckily I'm an Eagle and know how to count." She was being completely smug and enjoying every minute of it. Reaching out she grabbed her winnings and stood from the table. "Oh and Sev? Mouth looks better closed."
