I used to agree with the sentiment of this message 110%. Now I realize it ain't that simple. Manufacturers move overseas to maximize their profit margins, plain and simple. Materials, utilities, rent, and salaries are all cheaper in India, Mexico, Brazil, China, etc. Environmental concerns make the cost of manufacturing and waste disposal more expensive in the U.S ( ... )

Australian wines make a statement. That statement is DANGER: this is not a wine for drinking, this is a wine for putting down and avoiding. ;)

I have yet to find an Australian wine that I didn't like more than its California counterpart. The quality of wine you can get for $12 from California you can get for $7 from Australia. $7 California wine is barely worth cooking with much less drinking!

Of course if California can produce as good a wine for the same price (which they can't as of now), I'll switch. Not Australia's fault that major U.S. corporations have forgot how to be competitive...

No matter what you say... there is NOTHING like an excellent California wine... So does it cost more? Yes. Is it worth it? Absolutely. :)
