i don't know much abouts that stuff except that i have a close friend who is that and he drove himself to suicide a few times and nearly killed himself.

yes that's what it is. and they don't call it manic depressive anymore. take it from someone who's diagnosis is bipolar disorder depressed severe. but it's ok cause i'm on medication now and won't take 40 sleeping pills...or at least that's what the letter to my school from my doc says.
