A few random post op and pre-op thoughts...
- The only part of the whole procedure I find exceptionally difficult is washing my hair, since I have to tape a styrofoam cup over my ear to keep moisture out, it's hard to feel like a dignified adult if you look like you are waiting for the mothership to beam you home...and yes Jackie has pictures (not developed though)
- The most disconcerting thing is that my ear has no feeling in it right now...(the literature said the ear canal is relatively insensative...hell it's numb..so it feels like your arm feels when it's asleep, and that's a little disconcerting...
- The only real side effect I have is that part of my tongue isn't tasting things properly, apperently that's fairly common because the nerve was stretched during surgery..so foods don't taste quite as good as they should .
- Speaking of food, the first meal I had after surgery was wonderful, and all it was was pb and j on toast after the operation...and when I came home I had some coffee soft ice cream...mmmm....
- The other slight complication I have is that I can't hear fully out of my other ear, that is due to the swelling in the ear and it will get better in a while. It did pop for a while and I heard well, so there was no damage there, but it's still a bit discouraging to (temporarily) be deafer afterwards.
- Lastly, for now, the really hard thing to manage is to not cough with your mouth closed and to not blow your nose (that might affect the stitches), I feel like a four year old, and it's hard trying to overcome years of good breeding
Until later...that's all folks...
