I think most people would deem Ash to come from a modern timeline. It's not entirely untrue, as the series end in 2008 according to canon, and Ash is about 20 years old around that time, and attending college. (At least that's what it looks like.)
HOWEVER. That is his SECOND re-incarnation. In other words, that is not the Ash I play. The Ash I play was, (roughly estimated), born in 1924, and since I play him as 20 years old, his timeline would be 1944.
This is all calculated from the fact that Aaron Gawain was born in 1928, and this is a canon fact. Everyone else's ages are somewhat handwaved, but I'd like to think that Aaron was 16 years old when he met Ash. And that would be 1944. Aaron died in 2008, 80 years old. I suppose he died very early, but. It's still plausible.
I've taken Ash from around the 1940s London, which means he's very little acquainted with computers, internet, stereos or any other modern 2010 technology you'd find in camp.
...I think I'll leave out most of the WWII stuff though. The novel implies he's lived in Russia parts of his childhood, (1924-1935-40 ish?) since that's where Cora is said to return to after a while. However, I'm not entirely sure how the communications would've worked during those (kind of) dangerous times. I'll be vague on this, and I know it's just a manwha, but I really want to keep this as realistic (fff supernatural series) as possible.
I do realize that stuff in The Tarot Café is almost a bit like an alternate reality sometimes. The clothing style doesn't always fit the timeline, there's a concert with a pop idol that seems more of today than 1940s. And the Grammy award is on it's 46th year, there are escalators that looks completely modern, Pamela uses a seemingly modern shotgun for sedating needles on Aaron, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Radiohead are exclaimed as legends by that pop idol who also meets John Lennon. AFTER his death. Since in this story, John Lennon never died. He just hid away from a murderous fairy at a muggy café |Db (Along with Kurt Cobain, Jim Morrison, John Denver and Elvis Presley.)
But there's also a lot of things that's unexplained, and at most times, as I'm taking a closer look at it, it fits in. And there are hints of modern time, and it's just stupid and confusing. It's very strange. Herp derp. THE TIMELINES ARE BORKED but I think the series at least TRIES to keep a steady level. idk sob.
However, I'd like to keep the fact that my Ash is from the 1940s. Why? Because I'd think it would be interesting.
Thoughts on this?
DISREGARD THIS! CANON SUCKS AT TIMELINES Ash is totally modern.
