It's clearly been too long

since I last posted anything to this site - the font colour of my posts appears as a murky grey on my feed and I have bugger all idea how to change it! This site is what taught me html, which I think I've also long forgotten. That's the problem with making the move to Tumblr; it's very easy to become lazy. I'm also purely a consumer of fan content ( Read more... )

Like it's a part of the person I used to be when I lived in a different city and had a different job.
I know that feeling. Oh, yes.

Anyway, welcome back!

Hello! How are you?

It seems that a few of us feel that way about writing or creating, or maybe just fandom. I absolutely loved being part of a creative community and it feels strange now that I would ever have drifted away from it, but I really did. One to ponder.

I can't help but feel that writing is something that I used to do
Sometimes I feel that way, too. It's a strange thing, the creative venture! How did you get started writing last time? How did you feel while you were writing? Would you like someone or someones to give you prompts to see if anything sparks?

I'm with you on the great comfort of familiarity. There's an ease there, a confidence.

I've really been thinking about this the last few days; why I wrote and why I stopped, and it's made me very introspective and maudlin!

I've always written in some form or another, but I don't think I ever actually finished writing a story until I first published something online and people reacted to it, which gave me all the impetus I needed to complete the fic and then try my hand at more. I still get comments now about that story (good ole Fade to Grey!) I've not read it since it was posted so I can't comment on what it was actually like, but that ability to reach people through words... my goodness.

I would totally be up for being given prompts! I can't say that anything would come of it, but it would be lovely if something did. toblass has provided me with a little prompt which I'm finding very hard to fill, but the academic process of typing one word after another is proving to be rather satisfying. I don't think that the thing I'm writing will be worth publishing, but at least I will have a few hundred words of something of ( ... )

Right on!

Hmm... I suppose the first prompt would be "Finish Tyger, Tyger," so the second prompt would be...

- they meet up again ten years after the war at a vineyard
- they're on a magical research expedition to the jungle
- something set in Spain (because I hold to the irrational belief that Severus saved his mum as a part of his deal with Dumbledore, so she ended up living her best life with a new Spanish name, and I'm going to say that Severus does, too)
- they're now both employed at one of the OTHER magical schools
- Severus is now joining Hermione as a colleague at St Mungo's

I think Tyger is what finished me off in the first place! Who knows what I was planning to have happen next - I sure don't!

As for your other prompts, I'm going to save them somewhere to mull over.

Oh, and I followed the link to read all about the bookclub (I'm helped run two waterstones bookclubs and one of them was definitely that pretentious - i think it all depends if a man is running it!) I've not commented yet as I'm not signed it, but I love this Eileen! I don't think I've ever seen her made fun and interesting before, I love it!

I can't help but feel that writing is something that I used to do I often feel this way a too. I used to write a lot: weekly drabbles and several fests each year, but that's mostly fizzled out. Now I mainly do one fest a year, and every year I worry that I won't find the inspiration or the gumption to do that one. I have lots of time but I just never do it. {sighs}

I loved your stories and would be excited to see new work from you. Hope you find a way to light a fire under your muse.

I took a quick look at grangersnape100 yesterday for inspiration, and I can't even remember how prompting works! Also, I'm not on a team anymore (understandable after a 6 year hiatus) and have no idea about the etiquette of submitting drabbles or even I can write them after all this time - limiting yourself to 100 words takes a whole lot of discipline!

Hopefully we can both find our way back to writing again. Which fest do you still sign up for?

Well if you're looking for ideas, the sshg-giftfest had a huge variety of prompts (and you can always go back to previous years' if you're worried about getting in someone's way otherwise). Not so long ago, I used toblass's prompts from the last drabble writer standing challenge to try my hand at drabbling. I didn't know if I could and wanted to give it a shot just for my own satisfaction (and I don't compete), but that gave me something to work off of / a firm goal to work towards. Sometimes that helps. Or if you're feeling brave... signups are open for the tenth annual hogwartyxmas...

As to where to post 'em when you're done... Most folks seem to go the AO3 / FFN / Ashwinder / Petulant Poetess routes here unless it's part of some LJ challenge or fest, and even then, the works often make their way over to one of the other platforms after the fact. (For my part, I'm presently staging a one woman protest and sticking my things only on LJ; not sure I'd recommend it as a generally smart move though. heh) But sshg-hub (which I'm sure is ( ... )

I think anoesis just needs time to re-acclimate to fandom. I’m sure in no time she’ll be back up to speed and sharing her beautiful writing with us once again. Meanwhile, I’m going back and re-reading all her lovely works. ❤️❤️❤️

To modify the style of what you see, click on your avatar (upper right), select 'settings' then edit your 'journal style' and it'll get you to a page where you can set all sorts of things.

You never know until you try, if writing is still something in you, now, and even if it weren't that doesn't mean it never would be again. (I find RL has a lot to do with that.) Why not give it a shot and see?

Yeah, there's something very nice in... what's the tune? Going somewhere 'everyone knows your name'... Shared history is worth a lot. It was nice that you were able to meet up again.

(Perversely I tend to find beauty in the soggy, muddy scenery, at least as long as the bugs aren't biting. I also have a soft spot for industrial towers, preferably when artfully lit against the dark of night...)

If nothing else, at least a tidal river has lots of variety to offer, I suppose!

I think I'm going to try my hand at reading and reviewing a bit first, get to know the fandom and the folks again, but then maybe I'll find more stories in me!

Glad you're back. I dropped out for a while too, and I know exactly what you mean about the person you used to be. The only thing for it is to jump back in!

Sound advice! Sadly I think I'm probably going to dither on the shoreline for a while longer yet.

I'm glad you're back, too! A lot of people seem to have wandered away then returned, although I'm later than most. The party's in full swing!
