I started the day with stollen French toast, so... apparently it's been an indulgent morning all around? Your mention of Boston reminds me that I need to put it on my spring visit list as well, although it's only a few hours in the car for me instead of a plane. Word to the wise: the best cannoli on the planet are the Florentine cannoli at Bova's, in the North End.
And... ooh! Writing? May I ask what you're writing these days?
Oh, please do! I can send you for great seafood (Neptune Oyster above Legal Seafood, in my book), for beautiful chocolate (L.A. Burdick). The Brooklyn food scene is fab, but if you're adventurous, you'll find Queens more up your alley. Astoria has the best Chinese food (all regions) on the East Coast, there's Indian and Uzbeki and Italian and South American (Colombian, Peruvian, more)... I'm embarrassed to say that I've never been to Plymouth. One of my best friends is even writing her dissertation on Plymouth as a case study of historical reenactment as a model of historical education. If you're driving from Boston to NYC, and into interesting food, I'd also consider a stop in Providence, RI (great food scene, and you can become acquainted with the state beverage... coffee milk), or New Haven, CT (for Miya's Sushi, the most innovative sushi restaurant I've ever seen, which is delicious and wins awards for environmental practices and community-minded employment training of refugees and people leaving incarceration
( ... )
Apparently we're already planning a stop in Providence, so I will immediately google coffee milk and insist on finding some even if it sounds terrible! There will be four of us travelling together, so food options will have to appeal to all, but I can be pretty persuasive. I'll drag them if I have to.
(I've googled it, it sounds amazing. Even better was the the Internets recommendation that I try it in conjunction with a 'hot wiener' which has already delighted me)
We arrive in Plymouth about a week before the 400 year Mayflower anniversary celebrations begin, which is typical of our timing. I imagine we'll still get to see some reenactment at the tourist spots, so hopefully I will be well educated!
Hello Toby! I found ponzu sauce in Sainsburys today and it made me think of you (although I doubt you'll remember making that recommendation, it was a while back!) Of course I bought it :)
I've had an amazing weekend. It started with passing an exam that has been haunting me for almost a year, and included a walk in the sea front, some amazing coffee and chocolate milkshake, and will hopefully include reading at least part of a book. And maybe a nap!
Toby, as always you are wonderful - I've just downloaded the LJ app and was about to add a test post to see how it appeared, and you go and leave me a comment - how did you know I needed you?
We had some gyoza which were dunked with abandon. I like ponzu! I'd had a go at making teriyaki sauce from scratch, and we bought some gyoza as an extra (also from sainsburys which now has a sushi/japanese ready meal counter, unheard of in ye olde west country were I live but apparently doing pretty well.) Sadly the teriyaki was pretty disappointing, as so far is the LJ app. I might delete it!
'Potstickers' - apparently those are gyoza, so I did well!
Hope you had a nice weekend too, my dear! I think i forgot to add that earlier...
Happy New Year to you, too! It's good to see you again! Boston at Easter sounds very nice :-) I don't know if you're still into sshg, but if you are, you might want to check out the sshg_giftfest; it's been an amazing round!
I never read sshg any more, but I still count them as my original otp! The more I think about it, the more i think I need to get livejournal on my phone so i can catch up with all the fic I must be missing. The fests used to see some brilliant writing and art.

Sounds like a perfect weekend! And now you need some potstickers or dumplings to dip into that ponzu...😄
