Trabant is my familiar. She is not my pet; she belongs only to herself.

...She does deliver messages for me at times, however.

Yes, wizard's owls in Britain are not usually familiars, but much more than pets.

You mentioned another owl. Do you know if it is trainable? I need to deliver post to my family.

The other owl belongs to the town's resident "mad scientist," I believe. I don't know if you'll want to approach it.

But there are many other owls in North America. If you find one, I can probably talk to it for you.
