The defense made me panic 98743985734985793847593847598345 times. Monzón is supposed to be the future of our football and amazing and blah blah blah and he's still trying to climb out of that guy's (I forget his name, sorry) pocket. Pareja did really well, in my opinion, and he's one of the only ones I don't hate today. It was Masche against the world for a while there, and I think he did relatively well, considering that. He couldn't keep Kalou in check, but it could have been a lot worse.
I had a million more things to say but I need a shower right now because my friends won't appreciate my natural odeur, so yeah. I'll be back though.
I felt like Monzon and Pareja both ran into a lot of trouble today against Kalou and Gervinho (who at one point owned Pareja so bad he could have pantsed him, seriously), but they managed to recover enough, or at least hold the opponents off until Gago and Masche could come back and help out. I cannot believe Masche escaped without a yellow card, to be honest, haha. But you're right, he was doing a lot of work by himself, it seemed like.
I love reading your match reactions. I feel like I can never fully appreciate a match without reading them. (!!) I thought Ivory Coast was rather brilliant themselves, despite the loss. Angban earned my respect. Argentina's first goal was a little sketchy since it could be offside (?) but the second one was lovely. Re: Burdisso, I was slightly disappointed we didn't get to see him. It made me very happy to see Roman again but didn't he say he was retiring from the international scene some time ago? Also, did Gago's hair colour change?
Hm, I'm pretty sure Messi's goal was onside but the NBC feed didn't show 2389723 replays so whatevs. I'm not sure which goal I enjoyed more!
Roman was persuaded to come out of retirement (barf) but hey, this is the only time I can watch him since he returned to Boca (baaaaarf), so I'll take it. The defense really could use Burdisso, or any overage player, really. In 2004 two of the three overages were Ayala and Heinze, and in my opinion part of the reason why they won the gold was because of that veteran presence in the back. It'll be interesting to see if Argentina can get past that and solidify a little.
WHAT, ARE YOU SERIOUS. I WAS FUCKING JOKING WHEN I SAID THAT. :( :( :(
Well, he's been asked about it often, and he always has an answer for the journos, but it seems like he's just sticking his best players out there (defense excepted) and hoping they'll get the job done.

I can't actually find a download that won't kill my internet, unfortunately, so I only saw highlights, and am very thankful for your match report.
Batista worries me - he's given no indication that he actually thinks about tactics in any kind of detail.

My worry is that up against a good team with a well-organised defence, just relying on individual quality won't do the trick.
